GUWAHATI: As part of the RSS centenary celebration, a grand Yuva Sammelan was organised in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on October 14. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh organised the Yuva Sammelan at Langkung Habe Memorial Town Hall in Diphu town of the hill district as part of its centenary celebrations. Dr Sunil Mohanty, Assam Kshetra Prachar Pramukh, graced the occasion as the keynote speaker.

Dr Mohanty inspired the gathering with his speech, which reflected the supreme sacrifice made by Karbi vanvasi freedom fighters during India’s freedom struggle. He narrated the courageous story of Nongjerong Lekthe, a Karbi martyr who sacrificed his life by being hanged on 10 March 1858 in Jorhat jail for India’s freedom in the struggle against British rule.

During the interactive session, a Class X student, Kungri Beypi, raised questions about the role of the RSS in tribal communities, particularly among the Karbi people, and its approach to tribal identity. Another student, Renuka Terangpi, questioned why a youth icon like Nongjerong Lekthe, despite his immense contribution to the freedom struggle, had not received due recognition in the history of Assam and India.

Dr Sunil Mohanty responded to their queries thoughtfully, leaving the students satisfied and inspired that since “Bharat ka Amrut Mahotsav”, such unsung freedom fighters who were so far unrecognised are getting due limelight. He mentioned how Sangh is continuously serving the Adivasi society of the Northeast region through organisations like Banavasi Kalyan Ashram and Ekla Vidyalaya, providing education, identity preservation, etc to the tribals of the Northeast region.

Sjt. Dumbarudhor Kro, Jila Sanghchalak; Sjt. Jemson Kro, Vibhag Karyavah; and other district-level functionaries were present at the programme. The gathering concluded with the Akhikvani delivered by Sjt. Dumbarudhor Kro.

The objective of the youth sammelan was to introduce our rich tradition and legacy to the young minds, strengthen cultural awareness, and bring renewed attention to the legacy of our forgotten heroes.

RSS is organising a series of Yuva Sammelan across the Northeast to commemorate the centenary celebration of the organisation. Besides that, a number of programs are being organised on the occasion of the upcoming Vijaya Dashami across the region.
