NEW DELHI: At the call of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Delhi, a protest was organised today at the Faculty of Arts, University of Delhi, under the message “Stop Anarchy, Embrace Democracy.” Through the protest, students opposed tendencies that, according to ABVP, promote anarchy and called for the preservation of democratic values, constitutional propriety, and the dignity of democratic institutions. Amid the ongoing discourse surrounding the role of the Election Commission of India, the fairness of the electoral process, and the credibility of democratic institutions, students of Delhi University conveyed a clear message: democracy guarantees the right to dissent and question, but anarchy and disorder cannot be allowed to replace meaningful political discourse.
ABVP believes that a strong democracy rests on a constitutional approach towards institutions, fact-based dialogue, and peaceful democratic processes. Discussions concerning the role of constitutional bodies such as the Election Commission of India must be conducted in accordance with facts and democratic propriety. The student community opposes attempts to create an atmosphere of distrust towards institutions in the name of political opposition and tendencies that steer public discourse towards anarchy. During the protest, students also expressed their opposition to the politics of CJP (Cockroach Janata Party), emphasising the importance of democratic dialogue and responsible political conduct.
Sarthak Sharma, State Secretary of ABVP Delhi, said: “Democracy is not merely the right to protest; it also entails the responsibility to express dissent within the framework of constitutional propriety and democratic values. Questioning the country’s democratic institutions is an integral part of the democratic process, but promoting anarchy for political gains and creating confusion among the public cannot be acceptable. The students of Delhi University are aware and informed, and they understand the distinction between democratic discourse and anarchy. ABVP’s message is clear: Stop Anarchy, Embrace Democracy.”
Yash Dabas, President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), said: “Delhi University is not merely a centre of education; it is also an important platform for democratic thought and national discourse. The student community here believes in expressing its views and raising questions on every issue, but it cannot, under any circumstances, equate anarchy with democracy. Discussions concerning the Election Commission and other constitutional institutions must be based on facts, reason, and constitutional principles. The message from students is clear: democratic governance in the country must be strengthened, the dignity of institutions must be preserved, and political differences must be resolved through dialogue.”
