The police on July 11 arrested Sukur Ali Barabhuiya in Hailakandi under POCSO act for raping a minor girl, who is his granddaughter in relation, one month ago. The rape accused Sukur Ali was absconding for long after a case of sexual offence against a minor child was registered against him. The elderly man was arrested under the POCSO Act following case number 136/23 of Hailakandi Sadar police station.

According to the report, 73-year-old Sukur Ali raped the minor girl in June this year, when the 13-year-old minor was alone at home. The victim’s family lodged an FIR in Hailakandi police station, but the accused Sukur Ali was absconding. Later, the Children Welfare Committee (CWC) asked the district police to nab the accused and investigate the matter on priority basis. Action was taken swiftly after the CWC intervention and Hailakandi police on July 11 arrested rape accused Sukur Ali. He was produced in the local court and the court sent him to judicial custody till July 21.

Bajrang Dal wage protest, demand arrest of another accused and murderer Zubair Ahmed

On the other hand, rape and murder accused Zubair Ahmed is still abscondind. Bajrang Dal and others staged huge protest in front of the district superintendent of police office on July 10th and they demanded immediate arrest of the rape and murder accused Zubair. Several organisations held protests in Hailakandi city in front of the SP office and demanded result-oriented actions by the police.

Zubair Ahmed is absconding for last 7 days after a minor Hindu girl was raped by him and later the 13-year-old minor girl died in the hospital. It should be mentioned that, a minor Hindu girl was abducted and raped  by Muslim boy in Hailakandi district in southern Assam.

The horrific incident shocked the Hailakandi district. Zubair Ahmed and two of his friends Jabir Ahmed and Ansar Uddin Majumder abducted two minor Hindu girls on July 5. The three accused persons took the girls to Noonibali tea garden in the Cachar district in a car. But later, the 13-year-old school girl was found in serious condition by the locals. The local people told the Hailakandi police that the boy Zubair Ahmed abandoned her when her condition deteriorated and fled the spot.

The locals brought the minor girl to her school and handed her over to her parents. Later the girl’s health condition deteriorated at her home and police were informed by her parents. She was rushed to Hailakandi civil hospital but the doctors in the hospital referred her to Silchar Medical College seeing her serious health condition. The main accused Zubair Ahmed is absconding while his two companions Jabir Ahmed and Ansar Uddin were arrested by Hailakandi police.

Locals close to the family of the victim girl revealed that the prime accused Zubair was known to her as Rahul. 28-year-old Zubair works as a factory worker in Bangalore. Two of his brothers also work in Bangalore city.  He came to his native place recently. On July 5 morning at around 9.30 am, when the victim was on her way to school, Zubair and his two friends in a car approached the victim girl for a drive. She also took her friend with her. All the five went to Noonibali tea state in Cachar district. After spending some time in the garden, Zubair took the victim to a lonely place of the garden and raped her. Tea workers came to know about the presence of a few boys and girls and gathered there. Seeing the workers coming, the other two boys and the victim’s friend escaped the spot on the vehicle. Zubair also abandoned the victim and fled the spot. Later she was handed over to her family by the garden workers.

Police sources said that Zubair’s last mobile location was traced in Mizoram. Assam police are in touch with Mizoram police also. Locals say that his entire family vanished from their village on July 6. The entire family along with the accused Zubair might have gone to Bangalore and are hiding there as three of the family members are based in the city, they said.
