GUWAHATI: As many as 57 Bangladeshi infiltrators were arrested in Kamakhya railway station in Guwahati by GRP on 8th October night. The huge group of Bangladeshis were travelling from Srinagar to Guwahati. Based on credible intelligence input, the Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted an operation in Kamakhya station and successfully captured the Bangladeshi infiltrators.

GRP sources said that the Bangladeshi illegal immigrants reached Delhi from Srinagar and then boarded in Brahmaputra Mail and were planning to reach Guwahati railway station. But before reaching the destination GRP intercepted and captured them. Preliminary investigation suggested that the group was residing in Jammu and Kashmir for the past 20 years.

Police found forged Indian IDs like Aadhar card, voter ID, Bank Passbooks, ATM, mobile phones from the arrested persons. One of the arrested Bangladeshi confessed on camera that they were from Bangladesh and residing in Srinagar for the last 15-20 years. The group was planning to stay in different locations in Guwahati city. They were in communication with a taut network who would have facilitated them to cross over to Bangladesh via Meghalaya border.

Earlier on 7th October Assam police arrested 13 Bangladeshi who reached Guwahati from Srinagar. DCP Operation Kulendra Deka said that 5 Bangladeshi were arrested on 7th October while trying to board a train to Mumbai and another 13 were arrested at night from a city hotel.

In police interrogation the group confessed that they were staying in Srinagar for the last 15 years. They reached Assam via train from Srinagar and stayed in a hotel in Guwahati after telephonic conversation with a taut. Police sources said that the group was looking for a taut network to facilitate their exit from Assam to Bangladesh via Meghalaya border. DCP Deka said that the arrested Bangladeshi infiltrators will be handed over to border police for their expulsion from Assam under the provisions of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act.

Police arrested a mastermind of the taut network Hajar Ali from Dhubri in Assam. Hajarat Ali runs a taut network through Whatsapp. He facilitates Bangladeshi infiltrators to cross borders in Assam and Megjalaya. He also handles the infiltrator’s stay in Guwahati and manages forged Indian documents including Aadhar Card, Voter ID etc. Then he sends these Bangladeshi infiltrators to different locations like Srinagar, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad etc. Guwahati police have started an intensive investigation to bust the taut network run by Hajarat Ali.
