June 29, 2026
1. Mandirs Burgled in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh Amid Encroachment Dispute
Hindu mandirs in Kherot village of Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district were repeatedly targeted by unknown miscreants, with villagers linking the incidents to their opposition to alleged illegal encroachments on village grazing land.
On June 29, 2026, unknown thieves broke into the Khedapati Hanuman Mandir at Talab Kheda and the Bada Devnarayan Mandir. A silver crown, a silver moustache and three umbrellas were stolen from the Khedapati Hanuman Mandir. Nine silver umbrellas, Bhairav Baba’s mace and cash from donation boxes were reportedly taken from the Bada Devnarayan Mandir. The villagers estimated the value of the stolen property at around Rs 8 lakh.
The villagers stated that the mandir had been burgled three times earlier and that most of the stolen articles had not been recovered. They alleged that such incidents increased after villagers opposed outsiders and suspicious individuals accused of illegally occupying and attempting construction on grazing land.
On July 6, 2026, villagers, including Khedapati Hanuman Mandir pandit Ishwargiri, submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police and the District Collector. They sought an impartial investigation, the arrest of those responsible, recovery of the stolen property, removal of alleged encroachments and permanent security for the mandirs. The villagers stated that they would launch a protest if prompt action was not taken.
2. Muharram Organisers Face Objections Over Banner Depicting Hindu Symbols and Shivaji Maharaj in a Humiliating Manner
A banner erected by Muharram organisers ahead of the observances in Pochampalli, Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, drew objections from Hindu residents and organisations over imagery depicting Tipu Sultan alongside Hindu mandirs, sacred symbols and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The banner featured a large image of Tipu Sultan with a tiger and portraits of several young men. Hindu mandirs and sacred symbols were depicted near Tipu Sultan’s feet, while the artwork reportedly showed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a bowed position beneath his feet. Hindu residents and organisations described the imagery as offensive to Hindu religious sentiments and insulting to Hindu mandirs, sacred symbols and Shivaji Maharaj.
Images of the banner were shared on X on June 29, 2026, by the account Dharmic Indians, which called for police action against those responsible for the display. Following objections, members of Hindu organisations removed the section of the banner featuring Tipu Sultan. A complaint was subsequently filed in connection with the incident.
3. Hindu Girl Student Dies by Suicide Following Blackmail, Extortion and Pressure to Convert to Islam by Muslim Men
A 19-year-old Hindu student, Sakshi alias Pallavi, died by suicide after facing prolonged blackmail, extortion and pressure to convert to Islam in Dibiyapur, Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to her family’s complaint, Honey alias Tah and another accused, Ankur, trapped Sakshi in a relationship, recorded obscene videos and used them to blackmail her. Her mother, Premlata, alleged that the accused extorted Rs 25 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery by threatening to make the videos public. She further alleged that Honey repeatedly pressured Sakshi to convert to Islam and threatened to release the videos if she refused.
On June 29, 2026, Sakshi poured petrol over herself and set herself on fire at her home while her father, Harnam Singh, who serves in the Indian Army, was posted in Leh, Ladakh. Her mother was at the market and her brother was away when the incident occurred. She was taken to a local medical college and later referred to the University of Medical Sciences in Saifai, where she succumbed to her burn injuries during treatment.
Following the post-mortem on June 30, the family placed her body outside their home and demanded action against the accused. After the family’s protest, police registered a case under charges of abetment to suicide and provisions relating to religious conversion. The investigation was ongoing, and no arrests had been reported at the time of writing.
4. Hindu Religious Sentiments Outraged After Muslim Women Perform Ablution and Offer Namaz at Hindu Sacred Goga Mhadi Pond in Saharanpur
Hindu religious sentiments were outraged after several Muslim women performed ablution and offered namaz at the sacred pond within the Goga Mhadi complex, a Hindu religious site in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
On June 29, 2026, three to four Muslim women, accompanied by some children, arrived at the complex in the evening. They performed ablution in the pond and offered namaz on its banks. The pond is regarded as sacred by Hindu devotees and was used by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for puja during a visit in 2024.
Caretaker Mohit Vashisht and other staff members reached the spot after noticing the activity and informed the women that the pond was part of a historic Sanatan religious site where such acts should not take place. Anil Pratap Saini, president of the Goga Mhadi Sudhar Sabha, stated that the complex was a religious site with a history of around 1,200 years and that increased movement of outsiders following the establishment of a municipal fun point had led to repeated disputes concerning the site’s sanctity.
Following the circulation of a video of the incident, Hindu organisations lodged a complaint with the police. A case was registered against unidentified women, and an investigation was initiated. Police officials stated that CCTV footage and other available evidence were being examined to identify those involved. Saharanpur Mayor Dr Ajay Singh said the matter would be investigated and appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
5. Ambedkarite Politician Calls for Killing of 1,000 Hindus in Bihar, Faces Backlash Over Anti-Hindu Remarks
An Ambedkarite political figure, Rudra Pratap Kushwaha, called for the mass killing of Hindus in Bihar. In a video that circulated on social media, Kushwaha was heard calling for the “encounter” of 1,000 Hindus and extending the threat to the family and community of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a Hindu man who was killed in a police encounter on June 17, 2026.
Kushwaha is reportedly associated with the Yuva Vichar Manch in Bihar and has attended several Ambedkarite gatherings. The remarks followed the police encounter involving Tiwari, whose case had triggered controversy. Police maintained that they acted in self-defence, while local eyewitnesses reportedly claimed that Tiwari was shot multiple times despite having surrendered.
In the viral clip, Kushwaha said that not only Tiwari but also his parents, brothers and the entire Brahmin community should be subjected to an encounter. He further stated that he would feel peaceful only after the killing of 1,000 Hindus. He also mocked Tiwari’s death and the grief of his family while making derogatory remarks concerning Brahmins and Hindu religious beliefs.
In another video, Kushwaha was seen encouraging Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe youths to lure and marry Hindu women belonging to the Hindu community, describing such marriages as a means of “purifying” them. He also stated that he would fight legal cases on behalf of those who followed his call.
6. Muslim Man Arrested in Ballia Over Objectionable Facebook Post Concerning Ayodhya Ram Mandir
Hindu religious sentiments were outraged after Irshad Ali, a resident of Parmandapur in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, posted objectionable remarks on Facebook concerning the theft of donations collected at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
The action followed a complaint filed by Vivek Kumar Pathak, a resident of Nagwa village, at Ballia Kotwali police station. According to the complaint, the post was intended to create a false impression about the faith of crores of devotees of Bhagwan Ram, disturb communal harmony and spread hatred.
Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh confirmed that legal proceedings had been initiated, and the accused was arrested on June 29, 2026.
The controversy followed allegations of misappropriation of donations collected at the Ram Mandir. The matter gained political attention after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav raised the issue on June 7, 2026. The Uttar Pradesh government subsequently constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team on June 13. Its preliminary findings reportedly revealed irregularities in the mandir’s donation management system, and eight people had been arrested in connection with the alleged embezzlement by the time of Irshad Ali’s arrest.
7. Hindu man Abducted, Tortured and Stripped Naked by Unidentified Assailants in Dhaka
A 25-year-old Hindu pandit and law student, Subhash Deuri, was abducted, tortured and subjected to severe physical and mental abuse by unidentified assailants in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The attackers stripped him naked, recorded an obscene video and threatened to circulate it on social media before extorting money from his family.
Subhash, an assistant pandit at the Jagannath University Central Mandir and a student at Dhaka Central Law College, was abducted from the Narinda area at around 9:30 pm on June 29, 2026. He was confined at a secluded location and tortured from around 10 pm until 4 am. The assailants reportedly assaulted him with sticks and sharp weapons, causing severe injuries to his head, hands and legs.
During his captivity, the attackers used his mobile phone to contact his sister, Jaya Deuri, his friend, Durjoy Saha, and other family members. They demanded several lakh taka in ransom and threatened to kill him and release the recorded video. The family transferred 26,000 taka to a phone number provided by the assailants.
The attackers abandoned Subhash in an unconscious and critically injured condition near Agrani Bank on Narinda Road during the early hours of June 30. His roommates and friends found him at around 7:30 am and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition and remained under treatment.
8. Four Nepali Christian Missionaries Arrested for Offering Money and Healing Benefits to Convert Hindu Villagers in Bihar
Four Christian missionaries from Nepal were arrested after they offered money, medical treatment, free education, improved living conditions and other benefits to Hindu villagers to encourage conversion to Christianity in Geedarmari village of Bihar’s Supaul district.
According to a complaint filed by Kishundev Ram, Ramanand Sah Teli, Mangali Devi Vishwakarma, Urmila Devi Yadav and Hansa Devi Chaudhary, all residents of Nepal’s Saptari district, arrived at his house on June 29, 2026, after entering India through the Bhantabari border and travelling via Bhimnagar.
The four introduced themselves as Christian missionaries and urged Ram to convert, assuring him that his family’s illnesses would be cured, financial assistance would be provided and his living conditions would improve. The complaint further alleged that they warned him of future difficulties if he refused to convert.
The missionaries gathered around 30 to 40 local residents, including men and women, at Ram’s residence under the banner of Satyasang Parmeshwar Pita Ishwari Margdarshan, where prayer meetings and religious preaching were conducted. Local villagers objected to the alleged conversion activities, surrounded the missionaries and informed the police.
Police personnel from Veerpur police station reached the spot, detained those present for questioning and registered an FIR against the four Nepali nationals based on the complaint. During questioning, the accused stated that they had been preaching Christianity in border villages of Supaul and neighbouring Araria district for the past three years and claimed that people attended their meetings voluntarily.
Local representatives and members of the Hindu Dharma Raksha Samiti alleged that missionaries from Nepal had been targeting poor and uneducated Hindus in border areas by offering employment, financial assistance, treatment for illnesses and solutions to family problems. Police stated that the investigation was ongoing and further legal action would be taken based on its findings.
9. Hindu Woman Blackmailed and Threatened by Muslim Man Who Posed as Hindu in Faridabad
A 21-year-old Hindu woman was blackmailed, threatened and pressured into a relationship by a Muslim man, Aashu Khan, who concealed his identity and introduced himself as “Sonu” to gain the trust of her family in Faridabad, Haryana.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Khan first befriended the woman’s minor brother while posing as a Hindu and subsequently gained access to the family’s home. He later befriended the victim, who believed him to be Hindu, and the two began communicating through social media.
The complaint alleged that Khan secretly took photographs of the woman, morphed them into obscene images and used them to blackmail her into entering a relationship. He interfered with her arranged marriage and continued to harass her despite being confronted by her elder brother. The victim’s mother further alleged that the accused threatened to kill the woman, her family and himself if she refused to continue the relationship.
The accused visited the family’s home during Hindu pujas while continuing to conceal his identity. He later created an objectionable artificial intelligence-generated video featuring the woman and circulated it on social media, according to the complaint.
The victim’s mother stated that she contacted the accused’s parents to complain about his conduct. She alleged that they blamed the woman and said they had no relationship with Khan. The victim’s mother subsequently lodged a complaint with the police and sought strict action. Hindu activists also reached the police station in support of the family and demanded action against the accused.
10. Hindu Woman Lured into Live-In Relationship by Muslim Man Posing as Hindu and Wearing Kalava in Ghaziabad
A Hindu woman was lured into a live-in relationship by a Muslim man, Shahid Ansari, who reportedly concealed his identity, introduced himself as “Sachin” and wore a kalava to present himself as Hindu in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The matter came to light on June 29, 2026, when Satyam Pandit, president of the Rashtriya Hindu Veer Sena, and other members of the organisation reached the couple’s rented accommodation in the Vijaynagar area after receiving information about them. The activists questioned the couple after finding them inside the room. The man initially identified himself as Sachin and stated that they were friends who intended to marry through a court marriage.
When the activists asked the two to produce their Aadhaar cards, the documents identified the man as Shahid Ansari, aged 19, and the woman as Khushboo, aged 20. The woman stated that she had been living with Ansari in the rented accommodation for the previous two months.
According to Satyam Pandit, Ansari had concealed his Muslim identity by using a Hindu name and regularly wearing a kalava on his wrist. The two had met through Instagram, after which their conversations developed into a relationship. Ansari claimed that the woman had entered the relationship willingly and stated that he had not informed his family about it.
The Hindu organisation informed the police, who arrived at the location and took Ansari and the woman to Vijaynagar Police Station for questioning. The woman’s family was also informed, and police initiated further inquiry into the matter.
11. Hindu Mandir Attacked, Idols of Mata Kali and Lakshmi Vandalised in Mymensingh, Bangladesh
The Dattabari Sarvajanin Puja Mandir in Panch Kahania village under Dapunia Union in Mymensingh Sadar district, Bangladesh, was attacked by an unidentified miscreant who broke into the premises and vandalised the sacred idols of Mata Kali and Mata Lakshmi.
The incident occurred on the morning of June 29, 2026, at the mandir, where local devotees had been offering worship for nearly 37 years. An unidentified youth attempted to break the lock of the main gate using a bamboo pole before breaking it with bricks. After entering the mandir, the accused vandalised the idols and fled.
Police personnel from Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station visited the site and collected CCTV footage from the surrounding area. According to Officer-in-Charge Md. Shibirul Islam, the footage showed a youth breaking the lock, entering the mandir and vandalising the idols, but local residents were unable to identify the suspect.
Police suspected that the accused may have come from outside the locality with the intention of disrupting communal harmony. Legal proceedings were initiated, and efforts were underway to identify and arrest the perpetrator.
The attack caused fear and anger among the local Hindu community. Hindu community leaders and human rights activists condemned the incident and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and legal action against those responsible.

13. Hindu Physiotherapist Found Murdered at Nandi Hills Homestay; Muslim Boyfriend Booked in Chikkaballapur
A 26-year-old Hindu physiotherapist, Sai Surabhi, was found murdered inside a locked room at a homestay near Nandi Hills in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district on June 30, 2026. Her boyfriend, 25-year-old Mohammed Sanjeeth Ali from Kerala’s Kozhikode, was found unconscious beside her.
Homestay staff alerted the police after the couple failed to check out and did not respond to repeated knocks or phone calls. Police forced open the room at the Nandi Skandgiri Heritage Homestay and found Surabhi lying dead on the bed with a rope tightly wound around her neck. Ali was found unconscious nearby.
Investigators recovered medicines and a diary from the room and suspected that Ali had consumed an overdose of sleeping pills in an apparent attempt to end his life after the alleged murder. Based on a complaint filed by Surabhi’s mother, Geeta, police registered a murder case against him.
According to Surabhi’s family, the two had known each other since their college days at Dayananda Sagar College and remained in a relationship despite the family’s opposition. The family alleged that Ali had subjected Surabhi to harassment and torture and introduced her to drugs and alcohol, following which she was admitted to a rehabilitation centre. They stated that Ali resumed contact with her after she completed rehabilitation.
Before her death, Surabhi had told her family that she would attend a satsang programme at a hospital and stay there overnight. Instead, she reportedly met Ali at the homestay without informing her family. Police sent the diary recovered from the room for handwriting examination and continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder and Ali’s condition.
14. Hindu Family Alleges Sustained Harassment in Muslim-Dominated Area; Local Muslims Threaten to “Slaughter” Them “Like Goats”
A Hindu Brahmin family in Lucknohar village of Uttar Pradesh’s Sant Kabir Nagar district alleged that they faced sustained harassment and intimidation from local Muslims following a dispute over a drain between two villages.
The family alleged that some local Muslims, along with the Gram Pradhan, repeatedly threatened to “slaughter” them “like goats”. They stated that the intimidation had severely affected their lives, forcing the women in the family to remain indoors due to fears for their safety. The family also said that they were the only Hindu household in a locality comprising around 50 Muslim families.
The family approached the District Magistrate and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate seeking protection but alleged that they did not receive immediate relief. Following the circulation of a video on social media, the Sant Kabir Nagar Police stated that the matter concerned a dispute over a drain.
Police said that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the Circle Officer of Dhanghata visited the site and initiated efforts to resolve the dispute. Both parties were bound down under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to maintain peace and public order. The matter remains under consideration.
15. Hindu Community Abused with Vulgar Slur in Indian National Congress Tripura’s Official Social Media Post
The Hindu community faced derogatory remarks in a social media post published through the official Facebook page of the Indian National Congress Tripura. The post referred to the Ram Mandir movement and used a vulgar Hindi slur while addressing those associated with the movement.
The video featured visuals related to the Ram Mandir celebrations. Its voiceover stated that people had become fools in the name of religion and would continue to remain so. The original audio used the Hindi slang term “chutiye”, which was directed at Hindus associated with or supporting the Ram Mandir movement.
The post was published through the party’s official state unit page and remained publicly accessible until it drew widespread criticism on social media. Hindu users objected to the use of abusive language and the portrayal of devotees associated with the Ram Mandir movement.
Following the backlash, the controversial video was removed from the official Facebook page. However, screenshots and screen recordings of the post continued to circulate on social media. The case status and the number and identities of those responsible remain unknown.
16. Multiple Hindu Students Blackmailed with Secretly Recorded Videos and Pressured to Convert to Islam at Bangladesh University
Multiple Hindu female students at Jahangirnagar University in Bangladesh were blackmailed using secretly recorded obscene videos and pressured to convert to Islam by a Muslim man identified as Riaz Ahmed.
The incident came to light on 30 June 2026 after female students gathered on campus to watch a FIFA World Cup match and noticed Riaz entering and quickly leaving the women’s washroom. They stopped him and searched his mobile phone, where they found videos recorded through a small hole in the washroom door.
Students stated that the device contained around 140 sensitive videos of female students recorded on campus over the previous six months. Several of the victims were reportedly Hindu students whose private videos had been recorded inside the washroom. The videos were shared in an Islamic Telegram group and used to blackmail Hindu students and pressure them to convert to Islam.
University security personnel took Riaz into custody and handed him over to Ashulia Police Station. The university administration filed a case against him under the Pornography Control Act and other relevant legal provisions and constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
Law enforcement authorities also began investigating the circulation of the videos through Telegram and sought to identify others who may have been involved in their dissemination. The incident raised concerns regarding the safety and privacy of female students on campus.
17. Hindu Man Found Murdered in Satkhira, Body Dumped Near Fish Enclosure
A 30-year-old Hindu man, Sanjib Sarkar, was found murdered in Thekra Rahimpur village under Kaliganj Upazila in Bangladesh’s Satkhira district. His body was discovered beside his fish enclosure near the Thekra–Dakshinsripur Khejurtala road in the early hours of July 1.
Sanjib, son of Gopal Chandra Sarkar, had left home with his father at around 8 pm on June 30. His father returned home two hours later, but Sanjib did not. After he remained missing throughout the night, his family began searching for him. Local residents later found his body near the fish enclosure and informed the family and police.
The victim’s family alleged that unidentified assailants had murdered Sanjib at another location and later dumped his body near the fish enclosure to mislead the investigation. They demanded that those responsible be identified, arrested and punished.
Kaliganj Police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death and identify the perpetrators. The incident has caused concern among members of the local Hindu community, who have sought a fair and expeditious investigation.
18. Hindu Activists Attacked with Stones by Muslim Mob During Hanuman Chalisa Recitation in East Delhi
Hindu activists participating in a Hanuman Chalisa recitation were attacked with stones in East Sagarpur, Delhi, on June 30, following objections from local residents. The gathering was organised by members of the Bajrang Dal at a DDA park behind the jhuggi cluster in Gali No. 8 under the jurisdiction of Sagarpur Police Station.
The religious gathering was held after local Hindu residents raised concerns over the reported display of Pakistani flags during a Muharram procession in the area. Hindu activists identified Islamuddin, Irfan and Nausad as individuals who had displayed the flags. However, Delhi Police said preliminary verification indicated that the flags were religious flags and not Pakistan’s national flag.
Police said a confrontation occurred between 7 pm and 8 pm after some nearby residents objected to the Hanuman Chalisa recitation. A police officer stated that a group of women initially objected to the gathering, following which stones were thrown. Hindu activists alleged that a Muslim mob, including women, pelted stones at the devotees, while reports also indicated that stones were thrown from rooftops in the nearby settlement. Hindu participants and police personnel sustained injuries during the violence.
Multiple Delhi Police teams reached the spot, separated the two groups and deployed additional personnel to restore order. Local resident Vipin submitted a complaint at Sagarpur Police Station seeking action against those involved. Police said videos, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts were being examined to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible. No arrests were reported at the time of the available information.
19. Hindu Seed Seller Assaulted by Group of Muslim Men in Barabanki; Attackers Shouted “Kill Hindus”
A Hindu seed seller was assaulted by a group of Muslim men following a minor dispute in the Deva area of Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on June 30. The victim, Manoj Kumar, a resident of Rewa Ratanpur village, sustained injuries to his eye and lost a tooth during the attack.
Manoj Kumar, who runs a seed store near Kanshiram Colony at Taspur turn, had reportedly scolded and chased away some boys who were playing in the mud outside his shop and splashing mud on his clothes. Soon afterwards, a group of men identified as Badal Khan, Shanu and Chandu, sons of Mohammad Raju and residents of Kanshiram Colony, along with five or six others, entered the shop and assaulted him with kicks and punches.
The attackers scattered goods kept inside the shop and shouted “Kill Hindus” before leaving. Manoj Kumar subsequently approached the police, who registered a case on the basis of his complaint and initiated legal proceedings.
The case involves one adult Hindu male victim. The accused include three identified men and five or six unidentified individuals, with the exact number of perpetrators yet to be established.
20. Hindu Family Assaulted by Armed Muslims Over Minor Dispute in Begumpur; Pregnant Woman Among Those Injured
A Hindu family, including a woman who was nine-and-a-half months pregnant, was assaulted by members of a neighbouring Muslim family in Begum Vihar, Delhi, following a dispute involving a pet dog.
The confrontation began after a dog belonging to the neighbouring family reportedly rushed towards a five-year-old Hindu girl. The child’s mother intervened to protect her, following which an argument broke out. The Hindu family alleged that they were subjected to casteist abuse before members of the neighbouring Muslim family attacked them with sticks, iron rods, bricks and stones.
During the assault, the pregnant woman was reportedly beaten with sticks and kicked in the abdomen. Her mother-in-law, husband and other relatives were also injured while attempting to intervene. According to the family and eyewitnesses, bricks and stones were thrown from the roof of the accused family’s residence. Several victims required medical treatment, while the condition of the pregnant woman was described as serious.

According to the complaint, the younger sister was sexually assaulted by Ziauddin when she had visited the accused’s residence. She alleged that after the assault, the accused pressured her to convert to Islam. When she resisted, he assaulted, threatened, and blackmailed her. The victim later disclosed the incident to her elder sister.
The elder sister then approached the Vikasnagar Police Station and filed a complaint on 3 July 2026. She alleged that Ziauddin had earlier deceived her, forced her to convert to Islam, and married her through Nikah. She further alleged that when both sisters opposed his actions, they were abused, assaulted, and threatened with death.
Police registered a case under relevant sections related to rape, assault, criminal intimidation, and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act. The accused was arrested during the investigation. 39. Minor Hindu Girl Taken Away for Forced Conversion in Shahjahanpur; Sister Assaulted While Trying to Rescue Her
A minor Hindu girl from Khutar in Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, was taken away by two Muslim men in an incident involving an alleged attempt at forced religious conversion. The accused, identified as Azad and his brother Shakeel, were known to the girl through their work at a brick kiln where they were employed along with her family.
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, the accused had developed contact with the minor while working at the brick kiln. After the work ended, the girl returned to her village with her family, but the accused continued communicating with her. The mother alleged that the accused were attempting to pressure her daughter to convert to Islam and had also verbally abused her.
On 3 July 2026, Azad and Shakeel reached the girl’s village in an electronic rickshaw. The complaint stated that Azad contacted the minor and instructed her to leave home with the family’s savings. Following this, the girl took around Rs 1.5 lakh, kept as family wages, and left with the two men.
While the electronic rickshaw was travelling from Puwaiyan Road towards Mailani through Khutar, the girl’s sister noticed her travelling with the accused. She followed the vehicle and intercepted it near Khutar. When she attempted to bring her younger sister back, the accused assaulted her.
The incident attracted the attention of local residents, after which Azad was caught at the spot before police arrived. Shakeel fled from the scene along with the money and the electronic rickshaw. Police later took Azad into custody and initiated proceedings based on the complaint.
Circle Officer Praveen Malik confirmed that a case had been registered and that efforts were underway to locate the absconding accused. The victim is a minor Hindu girl from a Scheduled Caste family. 40. Hindu Woman Raped in Sri Ganganagar After Muslim Man Posed as Hindu and Promised Marriage
A Hindu woman in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan has alleged that she was lured into a relationship and raped by a Muslim man who concealed his religious identity and presented himself as a Hindu.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Sajid Ali Mangaria, came in contact with the woman through Instagram and befriended her while hiding his religious identity. The woman alleged that he entered into a relationship with her on the false promise of marriage and later raped her.
After the matter came to light, the accused fled Rajasthan and went into hiding in Kutch district of Gujarat. Based on the woman’s complaint, the Sri Ganganagar Women’s Police Station registered a case against him under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Rajasthan Police initiated a search for the accused and coordinated with Gujarat Police during the investigation. Following intelligence inputs and surveillance, Gujarat Police arrested Sajid Ali Mangaria from Ved village in Anjar taluka of Kutch.

Hindu religious sentiments were hurt following remarks made during a press conference in which Congress national spokespersons Supriya Shrinate and Ragini Nayak referred to Bhagwan Ram as “Imam”. The remarks led to protests by Hindu organisations in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Members of the Hindu Jagran Manch’s district and metropolitan units held a demonstration at the Collectorate in Saharanpur on 5 July 2026. The protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through the District Magistrate, demanding legal action against those responsible for the remarks.
During the protest, West Uttar Pradesh President of Hindu Jagran Manch, Thakur Suryakant Singh, stated that at a press conference held at the Congress National Office on 3 July 2026, Bhagwan Ram was referred to as “Imam”, which, according to the organisation, hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community and amounted to an insult to the revered deity.
The memorandum submitted by the organisation demanded action against the leaders involved and also sought measures to prevent such remarks in the future. The protesters alleged that similar statements related to Hindu religious matters had been made earlier and stated that such comments affected social harmony.
District President Mangeram Tyagi and Metropolitan President Ramdeep Bansal also addressed the gathering and reiterated the demand for legal action. Hindu Jagran Manch stated that if action was not taken, it would launch a wider protest. A large number of workers from the organisation participated in the demonstration.

A Hindu woman in Chandia, Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh, was lured into a relationship and sexually exploited by a Muslim man who presented himself as a Hindu. The accused, identified as Haroon Mohammad Khan, used a fake name and posed as a Hindu political worker to gain the woman’s trust.
According to reports, the accused introduced himself as Abhishek Singh Parihar and claimed to be a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He also wore a tilak and presented himself as a practising Hindu. The woman later discovered his real identity and alleged that he had concealed his religion from her while establishing the relationship.
After the woman attempted to distance herself, she alleged that the accused blackmailed her using obscene videos and threatened to circulate them on social media. She further alleged that he extorted approximately Rs 8 lakh from her through intimidation.
During the investigation, police recovered digital chat records linked to the accused. According to investigating authorities, the chats indicated similar interactions with other Hindu women, though the details were under verification.
Police arrested Haroon Mohammad Khan, who operated a private clinic, and produced him before the court, where he was sent to judicial custody. Further action was stated to be taken if additional evidence emerged during the investigation.

44. Hindu Van Driver Murdered in Throat-Slit Attack in Bangladesh’s Khulna District
A Hindu van driver, Samir Bhatt (40), was killed after unidentified miscreants slit his throat in the Molladangga area of Gazirhat Union in Dighalia Upazila of Khulna district, Bangladesh. The incident took place at around 9 p.m. on 4 July 2026.
Samir Bhatt, son of Robin Bhatt of Ketla village in Gazirhat Union, worked as a van driver. According to local sources, he was travelling towards Barasat with passengers in his van when miscreants posing as passengers attacked him with a sharp weapon.
The attackers slit his throat, caused severe injuries, abandoned him on the roadside, and fled from the spot. Local residents reached the area after hearing his cries and attempted to rescue him, but he died due to the severity of his injuries.
The victim’s van was later recovered a short distance from the incident site. Police initially suspected that the attackers may have killed him while attempting to snatch the vehicle. The exact motive behind the murder remained under investigation.
Police visited the crime scene and initiated efforts to identify those responsible. Authorities stated that the reason behind the killing would be established after completion of the investigation.

The Siddheshwari Kali Mandir in the Bora Bazar area of Jessore, Bangladesh, was targeted by unidentified miscreants who broke into the mandir premises and stole cash from three donation boxes.
According to mandir authorities, the incident took place between 12:15 am on 4 July 2026 and 5:00 am on 5 July 2026. The miscreants entered the mandir through the roof, disconnected one CCTV camera, and changed the direction of another camera before breaking open the donation boxes.

48. Muslim Group Opposes Construction of Bhagwan Shri Ram murti at Hindu Mandir in Bangladesh
A Muslim organisation in Kurigram, Bangladesh, organised a public campaign opposing the construction of an 82-foot idol of Bhagwan Shri Ram at the Shri Shri Radha Govinda and Kali Mandir in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha district.

51. Hindu Minor Girl Pressured for Conversion, Blackmailed and Assaulted by Muslim Men in Kanpur Dehat
A 14-year-old Hindu girl from the Musanagar police station area of Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh, was subjected to grooming, blackmail, molestation and pressure to convert to Islam by three Muslim men. The incident came to light after the girl’s father approached the police and lodged a complaint regarding the alleged abuse.
According to the complaint, the girl, who travelled daily by school bus to attend her school in Kanpur city, came in contact with school bus driver Mukhtar Ahmed Qureshi, who introduced her to Raj Rain. The two men established contact with the minor and gained her trust through regular interactions and by providing gifts, chocolates and other items.
The complaint stated that the accused later used compromising photographs of the minor to threaten and blackmail her. She was repeatedly pressured to convert to Islam and marry Raj Rain. When she resisted, the accused threatened to circulate her photographs on social media and issued threats against her and her family.
According to the girl’s statement, on 20 April 2026, the accused gave her a packet containing an intoxicating substance and instructed her to mix it into food at her home. Later, she was called to a deserted building near her residence, where Mukhtar Ahmed Qureshi, Raj Rain and their associate Monis were present. The accused attempted to sexually assault her, following which she escaped and informed her father about the incident.
The complaint further stated that the accused forced the girl to pose for photographs and later used those images, along with photographs taken from her social media accounts, to create a fake profile and circulate edited images with objectionable comments. They also attempted to obtain access to her social media account and continued pressuring her to convert.
After receiving the complaint, Musanagar Police registered a case against Mukhtar Ahmed Qureshi, Raj Rain and Monis under relevant provisions related to kidnapping, molestation, attempt to rape, criminal intimidation, offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act.
During the investigation, police stated that Mukhtar Ahmed Qureshi had introduced the girl to Raj Rain and that the accused pressured her to convert and marry. Police formed teams to trace the accused. Mukhtar Ahmed Qureshi and Raj Rain were arrested, while efforts were underway to apprehend Monis.

52. Hindu Woman Lured and Sexually Exploited by Muslim Man Posing as Hindu in Dehradun
A Hindu woman in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, was deceived, sexually exploited, threatened and blackmailed by a Muslim man who posed as a Hindu to enter into a relationship with her. The matter came to light after a video of the incident surfaced online.
According to the video, members of the Bajrang Dal reached a house in Dehradun after receiving information from local residents and found the accused inside the woman’s room. During questioning, the accused initially identified himself as Aman Jaiswal, son of Raja Jaiswal. He was also seen wearing ear piercings similar to those commonly associated with Hindu men.
During the interaction, the accused disclosed that his name was Ashraf Alam, son of Mehtab, and that he was originally from Bihar. He further stated that he had studied at a madrasa in Begusarai and, when questioned, claimed that an Islamic cleric had taught him to target Hindu girls.
The woman stated that the accused had introduced himself to her on Instagram as a Hindu named Aman and concealed his actual religious identity. She alleged that after gaining her trust, he established a physical relationship with her and secretly recorded her private photographs and videos.
The woman further alleged that when she attempted to distance herself from him, the accused threatened to make the private content public and repeatedly blackmailed her to continue the relationship. She stated that she had believed him to be Hindu because of the identity he had presented.
Those present during the interaction alleged that the accused had deliberately concealed his religious identity to gain the woman’s trust. They further stated that the accused continued threatening to circulate her private photographs and videos despite her requests.
The accused was identified as Ashraf Alam, while the victim was a Hindu woman. The case involved allegations of identity concealment, sexual exploitation, threats and blackmail. Further details regarding legal action or investigation status were not available at the time of reporting.
53. Hindu Villagers Targeted for Christian Conversion Under the Guise of Prayer Meeting in Sultanpur
Hindu villagers in Ramsapur Purva of Boudhiyabalamau village in Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, were targeted for Christian conversion under the guise of a prayer meeting.
According to reports, Christian prayer meetings had been taking place in the village for the past five to six months. On 4 July 2026, several Christian individuals from Shahganj in Jaunpur arrived in the village for one such gathering.
After receiving information about the meeting, villagers informed local representatives and police. A large number of villagers, along with local representatives, reached the location, where around 50 men and women were gathered inside a room. Villagers alleged that discussions related to Christianity and preparations for religious conversion were taking place there.
The gathering led to protests by villagers, following which police personnel, including female officers, reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Three women and one young man were detained and taken to the police station for questioning, while two young men and one woman fled from the scene carrying Christian religious books, photographs and other materials.
Following the incident, representatives of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal submitted a memorandum to the police seeking legal action against those involved. The Circle Officer of Lambhua and local police officials questioned the detained individuals.
The Station House Officer stated that a case had been registered and further legal action was being taken after investigation. The case was under judicial consideration at the time of reporting.

54. Hindu Minor Girl Raped and Blackmailed by Muslim Man, Pressured for Conversion and Nikah in Fatehpur
A 16-year-old Hindu girl studying in Class 9 was raped and blackmailed by a Muslim man identified as Jasim in the Hathgaon police station area of Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The incident came to light after the victim’s family approached the police, alleging that the accused had been pressuring the minor to convert to Islam and marry him through nikah.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Jasim, a resident of the same village, had been harassing her daughter for nearly a year. On 5 July 2026, he lured the girl to a deserted ruin where he sexually assaulted her and recorded an obscene video of the incident. The victim alleged that the accused later used the video to blackmail her and pressure her to convert to Islam and marry him.
The victim informed her family after she was unable to bear the alleged intimidation and threats. Based on the complaint, the Hathgaon Police registered a case against Jasim and his associate Akash.
According to Station House Officer Arun Kumar Chaturvedi, Jasim, aged 22, was identified as the main accused, while Akash, aged 21, assisted in recording and circulating the video. Police registered the case under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Information Technology Act, and laws related to rape.
Police conducted a forensic examination of the crime scene and attempted to recover the alleged video from the accused’s mobile phones. 55. Hindu Devotees Attacked While Protecting Century-Old Mandir from Vandalism and Land Encroachment in Bangladesh’s Feni
A century-old Dol Mandir in Fulgazi Upazila of Feni district, Bangladesh, was vandalised during an attempt to seize mandir land, leaving several Hindu devotees injured when they opposed the demolition. The incident took place at the Banikpara area of Fulgazi, where the mandir had served the local Hindu community for generations.
On 5 July 2026, a group comprising Sajeeb Banik, Swarup Banik, Jhumur Banik, Nupur Banik, Rupayan Banik and others arrived at the mandir premises and began demolishing a section of the structure. According to local Hindu residents, the demolition was carried out with the intention of occupying a portion of the mandir land and converting it into a road.
When Hindu devotees, mandir caretakers, and members of the Banik family attempted to stop the demolition, a confrontation took place at the mandir premises. During the incident, Sanjeev Banik was attacked with a country-made weapon and sustained serious injuries. Apurba Banik, Ratna Banik, Shilpi Chowdhury, and other Hindu devotees were also injured.
The injured were initially taken to Fulgazi Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Feni Sadar Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of their injuries.
Members of the Hindu community stated that the dispute over the mandir property had continued for some time and alleged that attempts had previously been made to take over the mandir land. They further alleged that members of the Banik family had received intimidation and threats during the dispute.
Following the incident, Gina Banik filed a complaint at Fulgazi Police Station against ten individuals, including Sajeeb Banik and Swarup Banik. Police confirmed that a case had been registered and stated that further legal action would follow after investigation.
56. Vulnerable Hindu Villagers Pressured for Christian Conversion Through Inducements in Kharora, Chhattisgarh
Hindu villagers in Kharora, Raipur district, Chhattisgarh, were targeted for Christian conversion through inducements including free medicines, medical treatment, ration supplies and financial assistance. The alleged conversion activities were linked to weekly prayer meetings organised by a pastor at a private shop premises.
According to the Sarva Hindu Samaj, a Hindu organisation, economically vulnerable and rural Hindu families were invited to these gatherings where they were offered various benefits to encourage conversion to Christianity. The organisation claimed that repeated complaints had been received regarding Hindus being brought to the prayer meetings and subsequently pressured to convert.
On 5 July 2026, members of the Sarva Hindu Samaj and other Hindu organisations gathered at the Kharora Rest House and carried out a rally to the Kharora Police Station. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Station House Officer, demanding an investigation into the prayer meetings and immediate action if any violation of law was found.
The protesters alleged that the pastor had been conducting these gatherings every Sunday at the private shop premises and that vulnerable Hindu families were being targeted through material assistance. They demanded that the administration shut down the meetings if they were found to be operating unlawfully.
The Sarva Hindu Samaj further stated that an impartial inquiry should be conducted and warned of a larger public movement if authorities failed to take action. Police authorities were approached regarding the allegations, and the matter remained under consideration.
57. A muslim Man From Kerala Arrested for Celebrating Pahalgam Hindu Massacre, Posting Threatening Comments Against Hindus
A Muslim man from Malappuram district of Kerala, identified as Muhammad Sanoof, was arrested after posting comments on social media that celebrated the killing of Hindu victims in the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed support for the terrorists responsible for the attack.
The case relates to comments posted by Sanoof on a social media post shared by the daughter of N. Ramachandran, one of the Hindu victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. According to police, Sanoof’s comments justified the attack in which Hindu tourists were targeted and killed.
The Pahalgam terror attack took place in Baisaran Valley of Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April 2025. In the attack, terrorists targeted tourists after identifying them on the basis of their religious identity. The attack resulted in the deaths of 24 Hindu tourists and one local resident, while several others were injured.
Screenshots of Sanoof’s comments circulated on social media. In the posts, he referred to the terrorists as his “brothers”, used the term “kafir” for the victims, expressed support for the separation of Kashmir from India, and called for the Islamisation of Kashmir. He also made statements supporting further violence against people, particularly Hindus.
Following the circulation of the comments, a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader filed a complaint, after which a First Information Report was registered against Sanoof.
Sanoof, a resident of Aikkarappadi in Malappuram, was detained at Karipur Airport in Kozhikode after arriving from Saudi Arabia on the basis of a lookout circular issued against him in 2025. He was subsequently arrested on 5 July 2026.
Police at Muttam Police Station questioned Sanoof, examined his mobile phone, and invoked provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) along with charges related to promoting enmity between religious groups. He was later remanded to judicial custody. The police stated that further investigation would continue and custodial interrogation would be sought.
58. Hindu women tempted with cash and miracles for conversion to Christianity; books containing provocative messages like “make Hindus homeless” and “kill these evil people” recovered
In Ranjhi area of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, police detained pastor Horton Phillips after a raid at a house in the Madhai locality following information about alleged illegal religious conversion activities. The action was taken after members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) informed police about a house near Shrikant’s Mill that was being used as a church.
According to VHP legal head Mahendra Kumar Shukla, Hindu women were being targeted for conversion to Christianity at the location. Police, along with VHP members, reached the spot and detained Horton Phillips. During the raid, documents and books were recovered which, according to police, contained objectionable messages, including phrases calling to “make Hindus homeless” and “kill these evil people”.
A woman identified as Pinky Ben stated that she had escaped from the alleged conversion activity. She said she was introduced to the organisation through a woman known as Laxmi Aunty and was told that abandoning Hindu dharma and adopting Christianity would end her family’s financial difficulties. She alleged that she was offered ₹5,000 in cash, payment of her children’s school fees, and other benefits along with promises of miracles for conversion.
Pinky Ben further stated that the organisation offered ₹3,000 for every additional person she brought for conversion. After learning about the alleged activities, she informed four acquaintances named Sumit, Rohit, Ravi and Sonu, following which the matter was brought to the attention of Ranjhi police. Police stated that the investigation was underway.
The case involved one identified victim, Pinky Ben, while pastor Horton Phillips was identified as the accused and was detained by police during the action. The matter remained under investigation.
59. Hindu villagers in Tehri Garhwal oppose alleged conversion activities through Christian prayer meetings
Hindu villagers in Kaitholi village under Jakhnidhar block of Tehri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, raised objections to alleged attempts to convert local Hindus to Christianity through prayer meetings conducted by outsiders. The gatherings led villagers to demand intervention from the district administration and an inquiry into the activities.
The matter came to light after external individuals began organising Christian prayer meetings in the village. According to a local Hindu resident present during the confrontation, the gatherings were being used as a platform to encourage conversion to Christianity. He alleged that people who had converted through inducements and monetary assistance were being used to bring others into the faith.
The resident objected to the continued organisation of such meetings in the village and asked those involved to discontinue the gatherings. He stated that the premises had been provided for residential purposes and not for conducting religious conversion activities. He also urged nearby communities to remain alert regarding similar prayer meetings.
During the dispute, villagers also raised concerns regarding alleged unauthorised construction along the main road leading to Chandrabadni Dham and demanded an official inquiry into the matter. They sought investigation into the activities taking place in the area and requested appropriate legal action if any violations were found.
Following the incident, villagers decided to submit a complaint to the District Magistrate seeking an investigation into the alleged conversion activities, encroachment and other concerns raised by the community. Amit Thapliyal stated that a formal complaint would be submitted.
60. Poor Hindu labourers lured towards Christian conversion with promises of money and denigration of Hindu dharma in Maharajganj
In Piparadeura Ward under Sadar Kotwali area of Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, police registered a case against three people, including a pastor, for alleged attempts to convert poor and labouring-class Hindus to Christianity through inducements and objectionable remarks about Hindu dharma.
The matter came to light after officials of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal reached a house in Piparadeura following information about an alleged conversion meeting being conducted in the name of a “Bedari Sabha” (prayer meeting). The gathering was attended by more than 100 Hindus belonging to the labouring class. Police were informed following which six people were detained from the spot.
A woman named Reena, a resident of Bilwania village living in Kanshi Ram Awas, submitted a written complaint to Kotwali police. She alleged that Pastor Saroj Kumar, Saroj Devi, both residents of Piparadeura, and Priyanka from Turkadiha in Kushinagar district had been organising religious gatherings at their residence for a long time.
According to Reena’s complaint, the gatherings targeted poor and labouring-class Hindus and attempted to persuade them towards conversion by promising money. She further alleged that objectionable remarks were made about Hindu dharma during the meeting and that people were encouraged to adopt another religion, which hurt her religious sentiments.
Reena stated that after the gathering, she recovered five religious scriptures belonging to another faith, around 50 pamphlets and a dholak from the spot. She handed over the materials to police along with her brother Rakesh Kumar and a local resident, Sanjay Kumar.
Based on Reena’s complaint, Kotwali police registered an FIR against Pastor Saroj Kumar, Saroj Devi and Priyanka and arrested all three. Police action in the matter was underway.
The incident involved more than 100 Hindu attendees who were targeted during the gathering, while Pastor Saroj Kumar, Saroj Devi and Priyanka were named as accused in the case.
61. Hindu medical student raped by Muslim classmate posing as Hindu in Dehradun; accused claimed Maulvi promised Rs 4 lakh for targeting Hindu girls
A Hindu medical student in the Ramnagar area of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, was deceived and sexually assaulted by a Muslim man who posed as a Hindu. The accused, identified as Aman Qureshi, concealed his religious identity by introducing himself as Aman Kumar and befriended the victim during their studies at Shri Devbhoomi College, Dehradun.
The matter came to light after a video of the incident surfaced online. According to the video, members of the Bajrang Dal reached a house in Dehradun after receiving information from local residents and found the accused inside a room with Hindu women.
Locals stated that they heard a Hindu woman crying from inside the room. When questioned, the accused denied the presence of any woman. However, after entering the room, they found two Hindu women present, with one of them sitting in a corner and crying. The locals identified the two Muslim men present there as Sohail and Aman Qureshi.
During questioning, one of the men introduced himself as Aman Kumar but was later identified as Aman Qureshi, son of Dr Zeeshan Qureshi. According to the video, he stated that he was from Muzaffarnagar and had studied at Shri Devbhoomi College, where he met the victim. He also admitted to having physical relations with the woman without her consent.
The accused further claimed that he had studied at a madrasa for four years, where an Islamic cleric (Maulvi) promised Rs 4 lakh for targeting Hindu girls and where they were taught about “Love Jihad”.
The victim stated that she met the accused during medical duty at the college and that he introduced himself as a Hindu named Aman while concealing his Muslim identity. She said that he invited her to a birthday party and forcibly raped her. She also stated that she was not in a relationship with the accused.
Those present during the incident alleged that the accused deliberately concealed his identity to befriend and deceive a Hindu woman. They further stated that the victim had asked him not to circulate her private photographs and videos, but he continued threatening to make them public. The case remains under investigation.
62. Hindu residents offered inducements for Christian conversion under guise of prayer meeting in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh
A prayer meeting in the Tarbahar police station area of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, came under scrutiny after allegations that Hindu residents were offered inducements to convert to Christianity. The organisers were accused of targeting Hindu families, including women and children, by offering promises related to healing from illnesses, admission of children to good schools, freedom from drug addiction, and solutions to personal and family problems.
The matter came to light after members of Hindu organisations reached the venue and raised objections over the gathering. They informed the police, following which Tarbahar police arrived at the spot, brought the situation under control, and questioned the organisers and attendees as part of the inquiry.
Security arrangements were increased at the prayer meeting venue and the police station to prevent any escalation. Police officials stated that they were examining all aspects of the incident, including the activities conducted during the meeting and the role of the organisers. Further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
63. Hindu sentiments outraged after statue of Hindu leader vandalised in Kolkata, West Bengal
An under-construction statue of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on Onn Sukia Street in North Kolkata, West Bengal, was vandalised by unidentified individuals, leading to outrage among local Hindu residents. The pedestal and nameplate of the statue were found damaged, prompting concerns among people in the area.
The incident reportedly took place during the night, and the damage was discovered the following morning when a labourer reached the site and found that a portion of the pedestal and the newly installed nameplate had been broken. He informed the police, stating that the structure had remained intact until the previous evening.
The statue had been completed ahead of its scheduled inauguration by state BJP leaders on 6 July 2026, before Dr Mukherjee’s 125th birth anniversary. Following the incident, police initiated an investigation and arrested 26-year-old Rupesh Hazra, a resident of Narkeldanga, in connection with the vandalism. Authorities also examined CCTV footage to identify any other individuals involved.
Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee is widely remembered as a prominent political leader and educationist, and his legacy is regarded with importance by many Hindus and organisations associated with Hindu cultural thought. The vandalism of the statue was viewed by local residents as an act that hurt sentiments associated with a figure they hold in high regard.
64. Hindu villagers offered money and free medical treatment as inducements for Christian conversion in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh
In Jadauda village of Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, Hindu villagers were targeted for religious conversion through inducements including money, free medical treatment, assistance for daughters’ marriages, house construction, and promises of curing illnesses.
The matter came to light after a complaint by Bajrang Dal district coordinator Ravi Chaudhary. Police raided a warehouse located in the village fields on 5 July 2026, where more than 100 people, including a large number of women and members of Scheduled Caste Hindu families, had gathered.
According to the complaint and police investigation, Rashid, the owner of the warehouse, along with other organisers, was conducting activities aimed at converting Hindus to Christianity by offering various benefits. Those who converted were offered amounts ranging between ₹50,000 and ₹60,000.
During the raid, police detained seven men and five women and recovered three Bibles and several identity cards from the premises. Police officials stated that people present at the gathering were being lured towards Christianity and that further action was being taken based on the evidence collected.
Based on the complaint, Mansoorpur Police registered a case against 14 named accused, including Rashid, Manish, Sanjeev, Sangeeta, Pooja, Monu, Ashu, Chandni, Sarita, Amrish, Kartik, Kanak, Sheeshpal and Praveen, under Sections 3 and 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
Police later registered Crime No. 180/2026 under the same provisions and stated that 16 individuals had been identified in connection with the case. Special police teams were formed to investigate the matter and take further legal action against the accused.
65. Primitive Hindu tribal community targeted in alleged Christian conversion drive through inducements in Gumla, Jharkhand
Members of the Adim Janjati, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) community in Vishunpur block of Gumla district, Jharkhand, were targeted for Christian conversion through inducements over several years.
The matter came to light after Anil Asur, CPI zonal council member and district president of the Adim Janjati community, submitted a complaint alleging that Vijay Birhor, a resident of Vishunpur, had been involved in conversion-related activities in the area for several years.
In his complaint, Asur stated that he was also approached with various inducements aimed at persuading him to convert to Christianity. He described the matter as being linked with the cultural identity, traditions, and faith of the Adim Janjati community and sought administrative intervention.
Asur submitted written applications to the Sub-Divisional Officer, Block Development Officer, and the local police station, requesting an impartial investigation and legal action against those responsible. He also stated that organisations working for the protection of Adim Janjati and tribal communities had remained silent on the issue.
