New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on August 14, Friday held protests across the country against irregularities and alleged paper leaks in JPSC and JSSC examinations, demanding a CBI investigation and strict action against those responsible. In New Delhi, ABVP karyakaratas and a large number of students staged a protest outside Jharkhand Bhawan in Vasant Vihar, demanding that the Jharkhand government address the concerns of students instead of suppressing their democratic voice. Protests were also held in Lucknow, Kolkata, Guwahati, Agartala, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Surat, Gorakhpur, Jodhpur, Kota, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Varanasi, Prayagraj and several other cities and university campuses.
Students in Jharkhand have been protesting against the examination irregularities for several days. Following the lathi-charge, use of water cannons and arrests during peaceful protests on August 10 and 11, ABVP intensified its nationwide mobilisation in support of the students. The repeated changes in the SIT constituted to investigate the matter have also raised questions about the credibility of the investigation. ABVP therefore demanded an impartial and high-level CBI probe into the JPSC-JSSC irregularities.
It further demanded that JSSC CGL be cancelled and re-conducted in view of the serious questions raised over its integrity, while all examinations where irregularities have been reported should be investigated and strict action taken against those responsible.
ABVP National General Secretary Shri Virendra Singh Solanki said, “The examination system must be transparent and credible because it directly determines the future of students. ABVP demands an impartial CBI investigation into the JPSC-JSSC irregularities, cancellation and re-conduct of JSSC CGL and strict action against those responsible. The government must act immediately on the students’ demands and undertake necessary institutional reforms to restore confidence in the examination system”.
ABVP National Secretary Shri Aditya Takiar said, “The students of Jharkhand are fighting for justice and the protection of their future, and ABVP stands firmly with them. The government must listen to students instead of suppressing their voice. Until appropriate action is taken on their legitimate demands and an impartial investigation is ensured, ABVP’s democratic and peaceful struggle will continue”.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Shri Sarthak Sharma said, “The struggle of students in Jharkhand is not limited to Jharkhand. Today’s protests in Delhi and across the country demonstrate that the student community stands firmly with them. The government must act sensitively and responsibly on an issue directly linked to the future of students. ABVP stands in complete solidarity with the students of Jharkhand in their fight for justice”.
