Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of August Kranti Diwas, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday formally launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in Bhubaneswar, calling upon citizens across the state to hoist the national flag with pride from August 9 to August 17. The campaign, aimed at strengthening patriotic spirit and national unity, will be observed extensively across rural and urban Odisha.
Appealing to over 4.5 crore people of the state, the Chief Minister urged participation from every village, panchayat, municipality, household, school, and government office. He emphasised that the campaign is not merely symbolic but a collective expression of national pride and unity.
Tribute to Freedom Fighters and Historical Legacy
Paying rich tributes to freedom fighters, martyrs, and eminent sons of Odisha, the Chief Minister recalled the historic Quit India Movement launched on August 9, 1942, from Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. He highlighted how the movement gave a decisive push to India’s independence struggle and continues to inspire generations.

Majhi stated that remembering the sacrifices of the freedom fighters is essential to preserving the spirit of nationalism and ensuring that future generations remain aware of the country’s history.

Highlighting the importance of the national flag, the Chief Minister said that the Tiranga is not merely a tricolour but a powerful symbol of the pride, dignity, and aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians.

He elaborated on the meaning behind its elements: saffron represents courage and sacrifice, white symbolises peace and truth, and green signifies growth and prosperity. The Ashoka Chakra, placed at the centre, reflects the eternal wheel of law and progress, encouraging citizens to remain committed to duty and righteousness.
Eco-Friendly Celebrations: Call to Avoid Plastic Flags
In a strong message on environmental responsibility, Majhi urged citizens to refrain from using plastic flags and instead opt for cloth flags. He stressed that national celebrations should align with sustainable practices and environmental consciousness.
“Patriotism must go hand in hand with responsibility towards nature,” he said, appealing to people to ensure that the campaign remains eco-friendly.
Grand Tiranga Padyatra Energises the Capital
A major highlight of the launch event was a grand Tiranga Padyatra that infused Bhubaneswar with patriotic fervour. Thousands of participants, including students, volunteers, public representatives, and citizens, took part in the rally.
Students from schools and colleges, along with members of NCC, NSS, and Scouts and Guides, marched in an orderly manner carrying the national flag. Cultural troupes from different parts of Odisha performed traditional folk dances, adding vibrancy and showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage.
The rally reverberated with slogans such as “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” creating an atmosphere of unity and pride across the capital city.
Message to Youth: Stay Vigilant and Nation-Focused
Addressing Gen-Z and the youth, the Chief Minister delivered a strong message urging them to remain vigilant against negative influences such as misuse of social media, substance abuse, and disruptive external forces. He cautioned that such influences can divert young minds from constructive paths and emphasised the need for discipline and patriotism. Encouraging youth to prioritise national interest, he gave the slogan:
“One voice of youth power — our nation will remain secure.”
Majhi underscored the role of young citizens as the backbone of the nation and called upon them to contribute positively to society and nation-building.
Odisha’s Key Role in ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ Vision
The Chief Minister highlighted Odisha’s significant role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.” He stated that the state’s contribution will be crucial in shaping India’s future as a developed nation. He pointed out that farmers, workers, youth, and women of Odisha will collectively drive the state’s growth. With sustained efforts, Odisha is poised to emerge as a major engine of India’s economic and industrial development.
Statewide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign: Plans and Implementation
The Odisha government has planned a comprehensive rollout of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign from August 9 to 17 under the aegis of the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department.
Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, addressing a press conference at Sanskruti Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, detailed the extensive programmes planned across the state. He stated that the campaign will be conducted under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, ensuring participation from the capital city to block and panchayat levels. To facilitate smooth implementation, the state government has provided financial assistance of ₹10 lakh to each district.
Women SHGs to Prepare 60 Lakh National Flags
In a major initiative promoting women’s empowerment, around 60 lakh national flags are being prepared by women Self-Help Groups under the Mission Shakti Department. As of August 8, approximately 45.40 lakh flags had already been prepared. The Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department has allocated Rs 15 crore to support this initiative. The Culture Minister noted that it is a matter of pride that flags made by women SHG members will reach households across Odisha, symbolising both patriotism and economic empowerment.
Special Events to Mark Independence Week
During the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign period, a series of cultural and commemorative programmes will be organised across Odisha to celebrate the spirit of patriotism and national unity.
On August 14, the Odisha Sahitya Akademi will host the state-level observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. The programme will feature photo exhibitions, screenings of short films, and theatrical performances portraying the impact of Partition. Families affected by Partition will be invited to share their experiences and will be felicitated, followed by a silent candle march.
On August 15, the state-level Independence Day celebrations will be organised under the Information & Public Relations Department. The Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi will present a patriotic musical programme titled “Bharatiyam” at Rabindra Mandap, along with a special concert marking the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram.”
Additional attractions will include sand art, rangoli exhibitions, and “Selfie with Tiranga” booths.
Digital Participation and Youth Engagement To encourage widespread participation, citizens will be able to take selfies with the national flag and upload them on the official ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ website between August 9 and 17. Participants will also receive digital certificates.
An online quiz competition will be conducted through the MyGov portal, with active participation expected from students of schools, colleges, and universities. These initiatives aim to blend tradition with technology, making the campaign more engaging for younger generations.

The launch event witnessed the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, along with several ministers, MPs, MLAs, and senior leaders. Prominent sportspersons, including international para-badminton champion Pramod Bhagat, along with Anupama Swain, Sunil Pradhan, Ravi Kumar, and Kamalakanta Nayak, participated in the event, inspiring youth with their presence and reinforcing the message of patriotism.
