In a landmark cultural and political announcement with deep civilisational significance, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on May 25 declared that the historic Bhojshala complex in Dhar will be transformed into a grand “Saraswati Lok,” while a dedicated Raja Bhoj Research Institute will also be established to revive the region’s ancient legacy of scholarship, Sanskrit learning and intellectual excellence

DHAR: In a landmark announcement that places the historic Bhojshala of Dhar at the heart of Madhya Pradesh’s cultural and developmental vision, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on May 25 declared that the State Government will develop a grand “Saraswati Lok” at the Bhojshala complex and establish a Raja Bhoj Research Institute in Dhar. The announcement came during the state-level Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan programme organised on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, where the Chief Minister also offered darshan and performed traditional poojan-archan of Maa Vagdevi at Bhojshala.

Positioning Bhojshala as a timeless symbol of India’s ancient intellectual and spiritual heritage, Dr. Yadav said the State Government would implement the recent High Court order related to Bhojshala “in letter and spirit.” He described Bhojshala, established by Raja Bhoj, as one of the country’s greatest historical centres of knowledge, science, Sanskrit studies and scholarly discourse.

Bhojshala’s Glorious Legacy to Be Revived

Addressing a large public gathering in Dhar, the Chief Minister said Bhojshala once attracted scholars and students from distant regions who came to pursue education and engage in intellectual debates. He asserted that the State Government is committed to reviving the institution’s lost glory and restoring its identity as a beacon of Indian civilisation and knowledge traditions.

Calling the recent judicial developments a “historic turning point,” Dr. Yadav said the decision marks the culmination of a 750-year-long struggle associated with Bhojshala and signals the beginning of a new era for Dhar. “With the blessings of Maa Vagdevi, Dhar’s history is changing,” he said, while congratulating the people of the region.

The Chief Minister also launched a sharp political attack on the Congress, accusing it of creating divisions in society in the name of religion and culture. He remarked that the people of Dhar deserved congratulations for their perseverance and faith throughout the long movement connected with Bhojshala.

Grand Saraswati Lok and Raja Bhoj Research Institute Announced

The proposed Saraswati Lok project is expected to become a major cultural and spiritual landmark in Madhya Pradesh. Alongside this, the Raja Bhoj Research Institute will be developed in Dhar to promote historical, archaeological and literary research related to the legendary Paramara king Raja Bhoj.

Dr. Yadav stated that the government would undertake comprehensive development works in and around Bhojshala in coordination with the Archaeological Department. He also informed that a dedicated museum on Raja Bhoj is being developed in Bhopal to showcase the king’s contribution to architecture, literature, engineering and governance.

The Chief Minister highlighted Raja Bhoj’s extraordinary legacy, recalling that he built the world-famous Bhojpur Shivling near Bhopal and engineered the Upper Lake of Bhopal, which continues to astonish scholars globally. He also referred to the famous 45-foot iron pillar from Raja Bhoj’s era, noted by Arab historian Al-Biruni for its resistance to rust.

Tribute to Bhojshala Movement Martyrs

One of the most emotional moments of the programme came when Chief Minister Dr. Yadav announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of three martyrs of the Bhojshala movement, late Ban Singh ji, late Antar Singh ji and late Lakshman Singh ji.

The families of the martyrs were honoured on stage, and the gathering observed a two-minute silence in their memory. The announcement drew an emotional response from those present, with many seeing it as official recognition of the sacrifices made during the long-standing movement associated with Bhojshala.

Dhar to Witness a Fresh Wave of Development

During the programme, the Chief Minister announced that Dhar, which he said had lagged behind in development for several years, would now witness a new phase of rapid progress. He performed bhoomi-poojan for 12 development projects worth Rs 88.04 crore, including a four-lane high-level bridge over the Chambal river on the Lebad-Ghatabillod road costing Rs 27.21 crore.

Dr. Yadav said the State Government is determined to ensure all-round development of Dhar district, blending heritage conservation with modern infrastructure growth. He stressed that the region’s cultural identity would now become a driving force for economic and tourism development.

Raja Bhoj’s Water Vision Inspires Jal Conservation Campaign

Linking Dhar’s historical legacy with the ongoing Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, the Chief Minister praised Raja Bhoj as a visionary pioneer of water conservation. He said Dhar was once known as the “city of ponds,” where Raja Bhoj had constructed the famous “Saadhe Barah Talabs” and interconnected them scientifically to ensure uninterrupted water flow and storage.

Dr. Yadav noted that Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a leading state in water conservation under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Across the state, more than 2.42 lakh water conservation works have been targeted with public participation, while projects worth nearly Rs 2,500 crore are underway.
