The Telangana State Election Commission on January 27, 2026 issued the notification for the Elections to Municipalities and Municipal Corporations, 2026, setting the electoral process in motion across the State.
According to the notification issued by State Election Commissioner, elections will be conducted for 116 Municipalities and 7 Municipal Corporations whose terms have expired.
Municipal elections Election Schedule:
As per notification, the election notification will be issued on January 28, 2026, marking the start of the electoral process.
Filing of nominations will take place from January 28 to January 30, 2026, up to 5.00 PM, followed by scrutiny of nominations on January 31, 2026.
Candidates will be permitted to withdraw their nominations until February 3, 2026, on which day the final list of contesting candidates will also be published.
Polling for the municipal elections will be held on February 11, 2026, from 7.00 AM to 5.00 PM, while counting of votes is scheduled for February 13, 2026.
The results will be declared soon after the completion of counting.
Scale of Elections
The elections will cover 32 districts, involving a total of 2,582 ward members in Municipalities. In addition, elections will be held to 7 Municipal Corporations, accounting for 414 ward members, including major urban centres such as Karimnagar, Ramagundam, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Kothagudem, and Nalgond
The Congress, BJP, and BRS have stepped up preparations for the upcoming elections following the recent conclusion of the Panchayat polls, in which the Congress faced a stiff challenge from both the BRS and the BJP across rural areas. The forthcoming elections are widely seen as a crucial litmus test for the Congress in the State.
