Hyderabad, June 16: Launching a scathing attack on the Telangana government, the State BJP on Monday strongly criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s decision to rename a road in Hyderabad as ‘Donald Trump Avenue’, questioning the Congress party’s repeated attempts to score political points through contradictory narratives.
State BJP Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N.V. Subash asked, “Who is really prostrating before the US President — Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Revanth Reddy and the Congress party dynasts?”
He said the Congress has a long history of displaying subservience towards global powers, recalling instances during previous Congress-led governments when national interests were allegedly compromised to appease foreign leaders.
According to reports, the Telangana government is planning to inaugurate ‘Donald Trump Avenue’ in Hyderabad on June 23. The proposed road, located adjacent to the US Consulate in Cyberabad, is set to be named after US President Donald Trump. The inauguration is expected to take place at a diplomatic event likely to be attended by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.
Subash also accused Congress of selectively glorifying historical figures while neglecting genuine freedom fighters. He pointed out that several prominent roads in the national capital were named after Mughal rulers and colonial-era personalities, exposing what he termed the party’s distorted historical priorities.
Drawing a parallel with a popular Telugu proverb, he said, “Andani draksha pullana” — literally meaning ‘the unreachable grapes are sour’ — perfectly describes the Congress party’s behaviour.
“Whenever it loses elections, suffers political setbacks or faces adverse judicial outcomes, the Congress conveniently blames constitutional institutions such as the Election Commission and even the Supreme Court, instead of introspecting on its own failures,” he said.
Subash asserted that under BJP governments, both former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi upheld India’s national interests without yielding to external pressures.
“It is the BJP leadership that has elevated Bharat’s global stature, unlike the colonial mindset that has long defined Congress politics,” he said.
Taking a swipe at Congress, he alleged that the party inherited the Mughal and British-era ‘divide and rule’ mentality by perpetuating caste, religious and vote-bank politics.
Subash said growing public resentment against the “arrogant and disconnected governance” of the Revanth Reddy government would inevitably translate into a decisive verdict against the Congress in the next electoral battle cycle. “The people of Telangana are watching closely and are prepared to administer a fitting political response at the appropriate time,” he added.
