A Special Criminal Court in Chhattisgarh has acquitted NSUI leader Afsar Ali and four other accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to the court document, Afsar Ali, 28, was arrested on July 27, 2023, and remained in judicial custody from July 28, 2023, to February 15, 2024.
Nadeem Ahmad alias Chhotu, also 28, was arrested on the same date and remained in judicial custody during the same period. The document states that the prosecution alleged that Afsar Ali had established a sexual relationship with a minor girl below the age of 16. It also records allegations against the other accused in connection with the incident.
However, the court subsequently acquitted Afsar Ali of charges under Sections 363, 366, 376(2)(d) and 376(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Nadeem Ahmad alias Chhotu was also acquitted of the charges mentioned against him, while Rupesh Yadav, Nishant Gusa and Sakif Shah were given the benefit of the doubt in relation to the allegations under the POCSO Act.
About the Case in 2023
According to the earlier report, the police case involved allegations that Ali had established a physical relationship with the minor on the promise of marriage. The report had also stated that the accused allegedly met the girl at a hotel in Ambikapur.
