AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has uncovered a significant espionage network, arresting two key suspects accused of gathering and transmitting classified information to handlers in Pakistan. The arrests, involving a former army soldier, were carried out in a coordinated operation at two separate locations.
Early December 4, the suspects were detained in Goa and Daman and subsequently taken to the ATS headquarters in Gandhinagar for questioning. Authorities identified the suspects as A K Singh, a former Subedar in the Indian Army, and Rashmin Ravindra Pal, a woman in her 30s. Both had been under surveillance for several weeks following intelligence reports of suspicious communications.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Singh, who retired from the army several years ago, used his military experience to access and compile sensitive information on strategic sites, including defence installations and critical infrastructure in Gujarat and other states. He is also alleged to have facilitated financial transactions to support the network, funnelling funds to Pakistan-based operatives through covert channels. Singh was arrested at his residence in Goa, where he had been living since retirement.
Rashmin Ravindra Pal was apprehended from her home in Daman. She is believed to have helped collect and transmit information through encrypted digital channels, maintaining direct contact with ISI-linked handlers across the border. The suspects reportedly used various communication apps and social media platforms to conceal their activities.
