The NZ Hindu Women Forum in partnership with the Hindu Professionals Association of New Zealand, successfully hosted a Women’s Health and Wellbeing Seminar at the High Commission of India in Wellington, bringing together health professionals, community leaders and members of the wider community for an evening of learning, discussion and connection. The seminar aimed to raise awareness of women’s health, promote informed decision-making and share practical strategies for physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. The programme commenced with a welcome by MC Dr Amita Fotedar, followed by a traditional Hindu prayer and invocation led by Namitha Raj and a salutation to Hindu ancestors presented by Sravya Kalli. A traditional tilak and scarf ceremony, conducted by Baby Nidhi, honoured the Chief Guest. Her Excellency Ms Muanpuii Saiawi, High Commissioner of India to New Zealand, delivered the opening address, highlighting the importance of women’s wellbeing, lifelong learning and community participation. She acknowledged women’s valuable contributions to families, workplaces and society and recognised the importance of initiatives that promote education, awareness and empowerment. Three expert speakers addressed key aspects of women’s health and wellbeing: Dr Meera Sood, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, discussed Women’s Hormonal Health: Menopause and Women’s Health Across Life Stages, highlighting hormonal changes, menopause and the importance of timely healthcare and informed decisions.

Sonam Gandhi, Gut Health and Hormone Balance Coach and Transformation Mentor, presented Nutrition, Gut Health and Lifestyle Strategies for Wellbeing, sharing practical approaches to healthy eating, lifestyle choices and sustainable wellbeing habits. Radhika Iyer, NZAC-registered Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor and founder of Manas Wellness Counselling, spoke on Mental Health, Stress Management and Building Resilience, emphasising self-care, emotional wellbeing and the importance of seeking support when needed. The presentations generated lively discussion, with participants engaging in question-and-answer sessions on hormonal health, nutrition, mental wellbeing, stress management and work-life balance. A key message was that women’s health requires a holistic approach encompassing physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing. In the closing session, Ms Vijeshni Rattan, KSM, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the speakers, the High Commission of India, sponsors, volunteers and participants for their contributions to the seminar’s success. The organisers expressed their sincere appreciation to the High Commission of India for hosting the event. They also thanked Mr Saravanan Navaneethan and Mrs Anandhi Muthu, owners of Muthu’s South Indian & Malaysian Restaurant, and Tandoori Heritage for their generous support towards refreshments. The seminar concluded with networking and informal discussions, allowing participants to exchange ideas, connect with health professionals and strengthen community relationships. Building on the success of the Wellington seminar, HWF NZ and HPANZ plan to organise similar programmes in other New Zealand cities ahead of the 3rd NZ Hindu Women Conference, scheduled for Christchurch in 2027 under the theme “Healthy Women, Happy Family.” The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to promoting health awareness, women’s empowerment, leadership and community wellbeing through accessible educational programmes and collaborative initiatives across New Zealand. Both NZ Hindu Women Forum and Hindu Professionals Association of New Zealand are service divisions of Hindu Council of New Zealand.
