Former Minister of Bangladesh Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury in an explosive revelation has exclaimed that USAID is behind the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina regime from Dhaka in a sudden student uprising in August 2024. USAID stands for The United States Agency for International Development, an independent organisation of the US, is responsible for rendering foreign aid, especially to the developing states with an overt aim of funding for the developmental programmes such as education, health, harnessing of democracy etc.

However, it is a well-acknowledged fact across the globe, that USAID is used as a tool to instill American footprint in foreign land, thereby fulfilling its expansionary and hegemonic ambitions under the veil of “aid and development”. The latest revelation by the former Minister of Bangladesh thus seeks importance in this light, given the history and hidden agenda of the USAID.

In an interview to a Russian TV Channel, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Former Minister of Shipping in Sheikh Hasina government asserted that the sudden and violent student protest that led to the overthrow of Awami League government of Sheikh Hasina was well orchestrated by the USAID. He also ascertained that one of the pivotal reasons for the US interference in the regime change of Bangladesh is that Dhaka was reluctant to unequivocally oppose Russia in its conflict with Ukraine. Bangladesh didn’t criticize Russia and outrightly supported Ukraine in their war. Given the decades of long-term relationship with Moscow, Dhaka had taken a balanced and neutral approach in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. While many countries were just following the orders of the United States to vote against Russia in the UN resolutions, Bangladesh carefully balanced its international relations, the former Minister added.

“There was a resolution that was brought in the UN. And there was intense lobbying for Bangladesh to vote against Russia. So, our position was that we are going to abstain from the voting”, Mohibul Chowdhury said in the interview. Irked by this, the US configured a plan to topple the regime in Bangladesh, Mohibul Chowdhury reiterated. “Certain actions of some NGOs, especially from the US, I mean USAID or the International Republican Institute, were running campaigns against our government since 2018”, Former Minister said.

The former Minister also questioned about where the funds allotted by the USAID for the development of Bangladesh actually went to as it was not visible in any development projects of Bangladesh. He said the funds vanished and were used for “regime change activities”. “The chaos was carefully planned with this money and it turned into a big riot”, Mohibul Chowdary said.

Mohibul Chowdhary also exposed the nexus between former US President Bill Clinton and the Chief Advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus. “There is a nexus between the Clinton family and the interim Yunus regime from a very long past. These activities were going on for a long time. They weren’t very open. But funding of the clandestine NGOs was going on. They were hell bent on changing the government in Bangladesh. This relationship reflects a deeper attempt by the Clinton Foundation and Yunus to push for regime change under the guise of democracy and development”, Mohibul Chowdhury further exclaimed.

Mohibul Chowdhury also expressed despair about the current state of governance and administration in Bangladesh. He said the country is currently run by a set of elite people who are unaccountable to democracy. Bangladesh, thus urgently needs a free and fair election. Earlier Sheikh Hasina had as well mentioned that she was facing the White-man pressure and there were “conspiracies” to topple her government.
