Initial investigations have identified the vehicle involved in the blast, with sources revealing the owner’s name as “Nadeem Khan.” Forensic teams and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have reached the site, while the Delhi Police have cordoned off the surrounding area and intensified security checks across the capital

New Delhi: Taking cognisance of a deadly explosion near the Red Fort Metro station in the national capital, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau and directed a coordinated multiple agency investigation in the case.

Speaking to the media about the blast, Amit Shah said, “This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged some vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives. Within 10 minutes of receiving the information of the blast, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch arrived at the spot. The NSG and NIA teams, along with the FSL, have now begun a thorough investigation. Orders have been given to examine all nearby CCTV cameras. I have also spoken to the Delhi CP and the Special Branch in-charge. The Delhi CP and the Special Branch in-charge are present at the spot. We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation, taking all possibilities into account. All options will be investigated immediately and we will present the results to the public. I will be heading to the spot shortly and will also visit the hospital immediately.”

In a telephonic conversation soon after the incident that led to multiple deaths following an explosion in a car near the Red Fort metro station, Shah spoke in detail with IB chief Tapan Deka and Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and took stock of the situation.

He also directed a coordinated investigation involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and Delhi Police.

According to officials, all the concerned agencies have been asked to “conduct a thorough probe into the cause and nature of the explosion and to submit a detailed report at the earliest.”

Meanwhile, according to the reports in the media, the vehicle in which the blast occurred belong to “Nadeem Khan.”

Security has been tightened in and around the blast site, and forensic teams have been deployed to collect evidence.

Meanwhile, an NIA team has arrived at the incident site and started assisting the Delhi Police.

Post the blast, a total of seven fire tenders reached the spot. A team from the Delhi Police Special Cell had also reached the spot. As per the latest reports, several were severely injured and were taken to the LNJP hospital for treatment. According to report from LNJP, at least eight people have been killed. “The call was about an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station, following which three to four vehicles caught fire”, officials of Delhi Fire Department confirmed.
