Tamil Nadu, once a proud and peaceful state, has turned violent and crime-infested during the three years of DMK’s Dravidian model governance. In a span of 24 hours, four brutal murders involving functionaries of the BJP, AIADMK, and Congress, along with the stabbing of a family including a 10-year-old child, have highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation.

In Sivaganga, Selvakumar, a resident of Velankulam and the district Cooperative Secretary, was hacked to death by an unknown gang while returning home on his motorcycle. This murder has sparked tense moments in the district, with several BJP members staging protests and demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. The relatives of Selvakumar and party cadres refused to take his body for last rites, holding a road roko stir that resulted in a traffic jam.

Police officials arrived at the scene and held talks with the protesters, assuring them of prompt action to apprehend the murderers.

Tamil Nadu BJP Chief, K Annamalai, expressed his deep sorrow and offered his condolences to the family of Selvakumar. He assured them that the party would stand by them, providing all necessary support during this difficult time.

Amidst the tragic incident, Annamalai raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu since the DMK came to power. He claimed that the state has become the capital of murders, with anti-social elements seemingly unafraid of the government and the police force. Chief Minister MK Stalin, who holds the home department, has allegedly shown little concern for the rising crimes and has been accused of diverting attention through theatrical acts.

Annamalai further criticised the police machinery, claiming that it has become a tool of the ruling DMK party, prioritizing the protection of the Chief Minister’s family over the safety of millions of citizens. He emphasized that such a situation has never occurred in the state’s history and called on CM Stalin to question his moral right to continue in his post, considering the worsening law and order situation.

This incident follows the hacking death of TN BSP president Armstrong by a gang on July 5. One of the arrested individuals was killed in an encounter. Shockingly, among the 18 arrested suspects, members from various political parties, including DMK, BJP, VCK, as well as a couple of advocates and a home guard, were found. Opposition parties have been demanding a CBI probe to uncover the truth behind these incidents.

In another distressing incident, a three-member gang entered a restaurant in Elakkiampatti, Dharmapuri town, on the night of July 26. Tragically, they stabbed a cook-cum-server, identified as K Ashik, who was standing in the front hall of the shop. The motive behind the murder and the identities of the perpetrators are yet to be ascertained as the police continue their investigation.

It is alleged that he was killed by a brothers of a girl with whom Ashik was in love relationship. The girl belonged to a scheduled caste community. Sources said janarajan and his brother Jana Hamsa Priyan’s sister and Ashik were in love relationship. Girl’s family did not approve of their love relation and started seeking alliance within their community and even printed wedding cards. The girl refused to marry the person fixed by her family till her last breath and will not accept even if her life was taken.  Enraged by her stand, the brothers and friends went to Ashik’s shop in guise of talks and killed him brutally.  He was stabbed and attacked with a iron rod. Police arrested one person and are in search of remaining three.

TN BJP vice president Narayanan Tirupathi in a statement said (yesterday (27th) BJP functionary was killed in Sivaganga. Then AIADMK functionary was murdered in Cuddalore and congress leader in Kanyakumari. The law and order situation has worsened in the state. Murders have become order of the day. The mercenaries’ job have turned into a corporate style culture. The DMK has lost the dharmic rights to the rule the state. The official machinery has completely breakdown. The police machinery has totally disappeared.

In another incident, a man stabbed three persons including a child. 44 years old  S Senthilkumar,  a resident of Sakthinaickenpalayam near Tiruchengode, was working for an IT company in Bengaluru. He was treated for mental health issues. He had confined himself to his room at his house for the past couple of months.  On 27th July, at 1 p.m.  Senthilkumar ran from his room to the neighbouring house and stabbed Daksmitha (10) with a knife. Hearing the child’s screams, Muthuvel (37) and Thangarasu (53) tried to subdue Senthilkumar but were also stabbed in the process. Local residents intervened and overpowered Senthilkumar, and took the three injured to Tiruchengode Government Hospital. The child, Daksmitha, was later referred to Salem Government Hospital for further treatment.

According to TN Crime Review, between 2021-2022 during the DMK regime, the murder for gain has gone up to 26,715, a 40 percent increase over the AIADMK in 2020, it was 19,050.  Likewise crime against women was 3,501 (31 percent rise), rape 8 percent with 421 cases, kidnapping 52 percent with 210 cases and serious crimes to 52,049 (21 percent up).  Late Thuglak Editor Cho Ramswamy used to say “whenever the DMK came to power, the overall crime rates would go up in Tamil Nadu. It included rowdyism, atrocities, crime against women, public and would turn into a heaven for criminals who will have a free run. But during Jayalaliahtha’s rule she kept the crime rate minimal by her iron hand policies against criminals.
