CJP’s ‘School Thik Karo Abhiyan’ under fire; Assam cook-helper accuses them of posing as govt officials & seizing keys

CJP’s ‘School Thik Karo Abhiyan’ faces serious allegations after a school cook-helper claimed its team posed as government officials, threatened her and took the school key

ASSAM: The Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP), much-publicised ‘School Thik Karo Abhiyan’ is facing serious questions in Assam after a school cook-helper allegedly accused members of the CJP team of posing as government officials, threatening her and taking away the school key during their visit.

The allegation strikes at the heart of CJP’s claim that its volunteers are carrying out school “inspections” in the public interest. If a political outfit’s members allegedly present themselves as government officials to gain access to a government school, the issue is no longer simply about exposing broken infrastructure or missing facilities. It raises questions about authority, consent, intimidation and the safety of school premises.

A school cook-helper claims the CJP team POSED as GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, THREATENED her, and took the school key during its “School Thik Karo Abhiyan” visit.

‘School inspection’ — but who authorised CJP?

CJP has launched its ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign as a nationwide drive to document deficiencies in government schools. Its teams have been visiting schools and highlighting problems involving classrooms, drinking water, toilets, roofs and other facilities. CJP itself describes the campaign as an effort to document school conditions.

Who authorised CJP to act like government inspectors?

A political party’s campaign does not automatically make its volunteers government officials. The distinction between political activists documenting publicly visible problems and officials exercising administrative authority inside a government institution is fundamental.

This specifically raised the question of whether a political organisation acquires statutory inspection powers simply by describing its activities as school “audits” or “inspections.”

Cook-helper’s allegation puts CJP’s methods under the scanner

According to the school cook-helper’s account, the CJP team allegedly claimed to be government officials, threatened her and took possession of the school key. A school is not an ordinary political meeting venue.

It is an institution where children, teachers and support staff are present. Any allegation that outsiders used an official identity to obtain access or control the premises deserves immediate scrutiny.

CJP’s campaign now faces a credibility test

CJP has built much of its political identity around exposing alleged failures in government institutions. Its ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign is intended to portray the party as an organisation willing to go directly to the ground and document problems that affect children.

But that campaign creates an obvious responsibility for CJP itself, The activists conducting these visits must also follow the rules governing the institutions they enter. Finding a damaged roof, inadequate drinking water or a broken boundary wall does not give political activists unlimited authority over school premises.

Assam campaign escalated after CJP detentions

The controversy comes immediately after a confrontation between CJP and Assam Police.

CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka and several other party members were detained in Guwahati ahead of a volunteers’ meeting. Reports said around 40 CJP volunteers were detained. Ranka later accused the police action of being illegal, while CJP said it would intensify its activities.

Within hours of the release of its members, CJP moved ahead with its Assam school campaign.

A team led by Ranka visited government schools in Palashbari and Dispur, including Khidirpukhuri Kaibartapara LP School in Rampur and Lokhra ME School. CJP highlighted alleged deficiencies in infrastructure and basic facilities during the visits.
