4,000-Km Punjab Drug War: BJP takes ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ to all 117 constituencies

BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras’ are covering nearly 4,000 km across all 117 Assembly constituencies, focusing on drugs, crime, law and order, and corruption. The 13-day campaign, led by senior BJP leaders, will culminate in Jalandhar on September 30

CHANDIGARH: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has turned its anti-drug campaign in Punjab into a massive statewide mobilisation, with four ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras’ traversing nearly 4,000 kilometres and covering all 117 Assembly constituencies ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Launched from Pathankot on September 18 by BJP national president Nitin Nabin, the 13-day campaign is being projected by the party as a direct fight against Punjab’s drug menace, deteriorating law and order and corruption. The yatras are scheduled to converge in Jalandhar on September 30, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to address the concluding rally.

The campaign carries the slogan “Bhajpa Da Naara – Nasha Mukauna Saara” and seeks to turn the anti-drug issue into a mass public movement across the state.

BJP takes anti-drug campaign to Punjab’s doorstep

The first yatra was flagged off from Madhopur in Pathankot by Nabin on September 18. The second began from Fatehgarh Sahib on September 19, with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagging it off.

The third yatra was launched from Fazilka on September 20 by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, while Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is participating in the fourth phase from Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda.

Together, the four routes are designed to reach every Assembly constituency, giving the BJP a statewide platform to raise the drug issue and interact with residents.

BJP targets drugs, crime and governance

The BJP says the campaign goes beyond drug awareness. The party has identified drug abuse, law-and-order concerns and corruption as three major challenges facing Punjab. Nabin, while launching the campaign, called for an intensified fight against drug abuse and alleged that the Punjab government’s existing campaign had failed to curb the menace. The allegation is part of the BJP’s broader criticism of the Bhagwant Mann-led government.

The campaign also follows the BJP’s ‘Mawan Mangdian Jawab’ programme, where families affected by drug-related deaths shared their experiences and demanded stronger action against the menace.
