New Delhi: Rameshwar Dayal Sharma, remembered as an ideal worker for his unwavering commitment to organisational service, simplicity and discipline, was born on September 2, 1927, in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. On his birth anniversary, his life stands as an example of dedication to social and organisational work while maintaining a balance between professional responsibilities and family life.
Born to Pandit Natthilal Sharma and Chameli Devi, Rameshwar Dayal Ji lost his father in 1935. His mother subsequently brought her four children to her parental home in Firozabad, where they received their early education.
His association with public and organisational life began during his youth. In 1942-43, influenced by freedom fighters Ramchandra Paliwal and Ramgopal Paliwal, he took responsibility for managing the activities of the Bharat Bhawan Library in Firozabad. During the same period, he began attending Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) shakhas in the Agra district under the influence of Bhaiya Ji Jugade, younger brother of Sangh propagator Bhau Ji Jugade.

A meeting with Babasahab Apte at the Sangh office in Firozabad left a lasting impression on him and strengthened his association with Sangh ideology.
In 1945, Rameshwar Dayal Ji moved to Agra and became active in the Yamuna Prabhat Shakha. Alongside his Sangh activities, he also served as the General Secretary of the Congress Committee in Chatta Ward. Following the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948 and the subsequent ban imposed on the RSS, he initially continued organisational work underground. However, following organisational instructions, he joined the satyagraha led by Shri Bhau Sahab Jugade and was subsequently imprisoned.
After his release and the lifting of the ban, he resumed his organisational activities. At the same time, he took up employment at an army workshop in Agra to support his family. He completed all three years of RSS training in 1954, 1958 and 1960.
Rameshwar Dayal Ji was known for maintaining a careful balance between his professional responsibilities, family and organisational work. Despite having three sons and four daughters, he led a modest life and remained conscious of keeping household expenses under control.
From 1960 to 1966, he served as the Provincial Joint Secretary of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and also held the position of Central Treasurer of the Pragati Mazdoor Sangh.
In 1967, he became actively associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). His deep respect for saints and religious leaders led to his being entrusted with coordinating with religious figures across Uttar Pradesh. He regularly visited the Parishad office before and after his working hours.
After retiring from government service in 1987, he moved to Delhi and joined the VHP’s central office. He was entrusted with the responsibility of Central Joint Secretary as well as the Nepal Desk of the World Hindu Federation. From 1996, he also handled correspondence as the personal assistant to Shri Ashok Singhal.
His organisational life was complemented by a deep spiritual inclination. He regarded revered Swami Adgadanand Ji as his guru and would compile small booklets containing his discourses, which he distributed free of cost.
In 2009, Rameshwar Dayal Ji was diagnosed with cancer of the urinary gland. Although surgery provided some initial relief, the disease continued to affect his health and his physical strength gradually declined. Recognising his condition, he handed over his organisational responsibilities and moved to Agra to spend his final days with his children.
Despite treatment and care, the disease continued to spread. On June 10, 2010, Sant Baccha Baba visited his home and conveyed a message from his guru, Swami Adgadanand Ji. The message, according to accounts of his final days, urged him to leave his physical body, take a new form and continue his devotion to the Bhagwan.
A few hours after receiving the message, Rameshwar Dayal Ji passed away.
His life remains remembered for the discipline with which he combined employment, family responsibilities, organisational service and spiritual pursuits. His journey from the freedom movement-era environment of Firozabad and Agra to his later responsibilities in the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and Vishwa Hindu Parishad reflects decades of dedicated public and organisational work.
Rameshwar Dayal Ji’s younger brother, Rajeshwar Ji, also devoted his life to organisational service. A lifelong RSS pracharak, Rajeshwar Ji was initially active in the Sangh and later worked with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh. He passed away on June 10, 2007, at Madhav Bhawan, the Sangh office in Agra.
