JAIPUR: Six police personnel have been suspended in Rajasthan following allegations that RSS pracharak Krishna Avtar, Sambhar Jila, was assaulted in police custody at Narena police station in Jaipur rural. According to the FIR lodged on Sunday on a complaint by Narena Khand Karyawah Anurag Aagiwal, the incident took place around 9 pm on October 10, when police personnel on patrol stopped Avtar, who was walking towards Phulera, and took him to the police station following an altercation.

The complaint alleges that Avtar was subjected to abusive and humiliating remarks about the RSS and his family background. When he introduced himself to Station House Officer (SHO) Umrao Singh as an RSS pracharak, the SHO allegedly became angry and instructed the personnel, “Aaj iski pracharaki utar do” (Today, strip him of his pracharaki).

The FIR further alleges that Assistant Sub-Inspector Omkar Singh and police personnel Ajay, Ramesh, Kuldeep, Mahipal and Vinod stripped Avtar and brutally assaulted him, including on his private parts, leaving him unconscious. The personnel allegedly continued to make insulting remarks about the RSS and his family, telling him that “Sangh ne desh ko barbaad kar diya hai” (The RSS has ruined the country).

Following the alleged assault, Avtar’s condition reportedly deteriorated, and he was taken to a Community Health Centre. As his condition was serious, he was referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for treatment. According to the FIR, the case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to unlawful assembly, voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and confinement, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and criminal intimidation.

The Jodhpur prant of Vishwa Samvad Kendra, the RSS’s official media organisation, condemned the alleged incident as extremely shameful. In a post on X, it said that the alleged assault on an RSS pracharak was a resounding slap on the cheek of every volunteer. It also remarked that a pracharak of the organisation, from which leaders now occupying prominent positions had emerged, was lying injured in hospital.

On October 11, a large number of RSS swayamsevaks reached Narena police station to protest against the alleged incident. They raised slogans against the police administration and staged a sit-in, demanding action against the personnel involved. BJP Rajasthan state chief spokesperson Ramlal Sharma, former MLA Nirmal Kumawat and BJP Jaipur District Rural South president Rajesh Gurjar also joined the protest.

As tensions escalated, Superintendent of Police Hanuman Sahay suspended SHO Umrao Singh, ASI Omkar Singh and four other police personnel. The FIR names seven people, including the SHO, while six police personnel have been suspended in connection with the allegations.

Complainant Anurag Aagiwal has demanded a fair and detailed investigation. He has urged the authorities to preserve and examine CCTV footage from the police station, relevant records and medical documents. The complaint also seeks to establish the grounds on which Avtar was brought to the police station and whether the officials present took steps to stop the alleged assault or ensure that he received timely medical assistance.

Investigating Officer Anupam Mishra said the investigation was in its initial stages and Avtar’s statement was being recorded. The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations will be established only after the evidence has been examined.
