AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi-led party has expelled Telangana MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig with immediate effect following serious allegations involving a minor girl. The party has also directed Baig to resign from the Legislative Council immediately and submit his resignation to the Chairman of the Legislative Council.

AIMIM Joint Secretary S.A. Hussain Anwar announced the decision in a statement released late on August 28. In a post on X, the AIMIM said: “Mirza Rahmath Baig has been expelled from AIMIM with immediate effect. He must immediately submit his resignation to the Chairman of the Legislative Council.”

Allegations have emerged that some youths caught Mirza Rahmath Baig while he was allegedly assaulting a minor girl in the Attapur area in Hyderabad. It is also being reported that they beat him up and recorded videos related to the incident.

The party, however, has not officially disclosed the full details of the video leak controversy that led to such strict action against him.

Recently, AIMIM MLC Baig approached the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police, alleging that some people had threatened him and demanded money, saying they would release deepfake and morphed photographs and videos of him. Police reportedly registered a case based on his complaint and launched an investigation.

The timing of the developments has raised further questions, as AIMIM expelled Baig and directed him to resign from the MLC post soon after the reported cybercrime complaint. However, AIMIM has not officially stated that the deepfake threats case is directly linked to its decision to expel him.

Several media reports have also stated that Baig had recently travelled to Saudi Arabia and returned to Hyderabad following the party’s directive.

AIMIM has 7 MLAs in the Telangana Legislative Assembly and 2 MLCs in the Legislative Council.

Mirza Rahmath Baig won as MLC from the Hyderabad Local Authorities constituency with the support of the BRS, Congress and Majlis.

Mirza Rahmath Baig has repeatedly been in the news over controversies, including allegations of intervening on behalf of cow smugglers, obstructing GHMC workers while they were carrying out official orders, confronting bureaucrats at government offices and challenging police officials while they were discharging their duties.

BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao said, “Why are Congress leaders silent today on the MLC issue involving the Majlis party? The dark understanding and conspiracy between the Congress, BRS and Majlis parties have been clearly exposed in this entire episode. This shows how these three parties are working together to deceive the people of Telangana by covering up each other’s wrongdoings.”

In a video statement, BRS leader Salman Khan acknowledged that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi acted quickly to seek Baig’s removal after representations were made against him, but said a silent expulsion without disclosing facts to the public was unacceptable. “Removing him quietly and keeping the public in the dark is unacceptable,” Khan said, adding that the party spoke of moral values and rights on public platforms while its elected representatives indulged in reckless behaviour behind closed doors.

Khan alleged that the controversy was not limited to Baig, claiming that a sitting AIMIM MLA and a party corporator were linked to similar misconduct, and said he held concrete evidence against them.
