Three residents of the 2 BHK Police Housing Society in Madannapet, Hyderabad, were detained on Sunday, September 20, after a packet containing bones and non-vegetarian food waste was allegedly thrown from the housing complex while a Ganesh immersion procession and an Annadanam programme were underway.
The incident triggered protests by BJP leaders and Hindu organisations, who demanded action against those responsible. Police intervened and brought the situation under control, following which traffic returned to normal.
The incident occurred around 3 pm near Chanchalguda on September 20. According to preliminary police information, the material was thrown towards the area where devotees had gathered for the Annadanam. Charminar Zone DCP Kiran Khare said the material appeared to be “like beef”, while its exact nature is being verified as part of the investigation.
The three detained were identified as Mohammad Imran Qureshi, Arshiya Begum and Sameena, all residents of the housing society.
Speaking to the media, DCP Khare Kiran Khare, DCP, Charminar Zone, Hyderabad, says, “Today at 3 PM, a communal incident occurred here in the Madannapet area at the 2 BHK Police Housing Society. In this incident, according to the primary information received, we learned that a few residents residing in this 2 BHK housing threw some kind of non-veg material, like beef, downward. At the same time, there was Ganesh immersion going on, and also the Annadanam program was going on during that time. Information was immediately given to the police. The police reached the spot, and three persons were taken into custody. These persons’ names are Mohammad Imran Qureshi, Arshiya Begum, and the third is Sameena. All three persons are residents of this 2 BHK housing society, so they have been taken into police custody… All three persons will be put behind bars, and stringent action will be taken. Strong sections will be pressed against all these people. After the incident, a few protesters also gathered here and staged a protest.”

Reportedly, the FIR was registered based on a complaint by a local resident under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections relating to promoting enmity between different groups (Section 196(2)) and deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings (Section 299), read with Section 3(5).
According to local sources, the housing society has around 270 flats, with nearly 200 occupied by Muslim families and only around 30 by Hindu families.
Hyderabad-based advocate Karunasagar said on X that the incident was a deliberate attempt to hurt Hindu religious sentiments and defile sacred prasadam meant for distribution among the poor, irrespective of caste.

BJP Telangana said on X: “Incidents that hurt Hindu sentiments are occurring every day, yet Revanth, do you not care? Is vote-bank politics and hatred towards Hindus your ideology? Do you have no intention of taking action to ensure that such incidents do not happen again? The previous ruler was punished; you too cannot escape such a verdict.”

Local residents point out that Madannapet falls under the Malakpet Assembly constituency, represented by AIMIM MLA Ahmed Balala. They said MLAs often rush to the spot when such incidents occur and issue statements, but Balala has so far not publicly commented on the incident, nor has the AIMIM state leadership issued a statement, according to local sources.

The controversy came against the backdrop of several reported attacks and acts of vandalism targeting Hindu temples in Hyderabad in 2024, including Bhoolaxmi Temple in Rakshapuram, Mathaji temples in Shivaji Nagar and Amberpet, Muthyalamma Temple in Secunderabad and Navagraha murtis at a Hanuman temple in Shamshabad’s Airport Colony.
