CJP Protest in Delhi: Exposing western media’s fake narratives, selective reporting and ignorance

While the Cockroach Janata Party(CJP) and Sonam Wangchuk staged a protest in New Delhi, the western media coverage about the socio-political developments in India, is a clear reflection of selective ignorance and running fake narrative network to defame the country’s sovereignty, constitutional & democratic fabric. The attempt by the western media is to escalate fissures in Indian society & conceal its hidden agenda, by fabricating reports!

As the protest by the Cockroach Janata Party(CJP) and Sonam Wangchuk escalated in New Delhi, the western media was ambitiously and fiercely covering the unravelling incidents. Many internationally acclaimed journalists hit the streets and reported the protests, apparently casting themselves as the voice of the Indian youth.

However, all they did was selective ignorance, selective reporting and an well-orchestrated agenda to defame India. The hidden card, beneath the narrative of transparent reporting, was a structural attempt to escalate fissures in the Indian society and gently cause threat to the country’s democracy, sovereignty, constitutional fabric and socio-political apparatus.

Decoding the reports in various western media about Sonam Wangchuk & CJP protest, reveals the extent of selective reporting and running fake narrative networks.

Sonam Wangchuk was forcibly taken to hospital: Claims Reuters & BBC

The global news agency, Reuters hails Sonam Wangchuk as an environmentalist educational reformer. They call him the face of the Gen Z movement who are demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister. The reports in Reuters and BBC also claim that Sonam Wangchuk was forcibly taken to hospital, following three weeks of hunger strike. With such “forced hospitalisation” narrative, western media aims to propagate that human rights, democratic rights are deteriorating in India.

However, in reality, Sonam Wangchuk was taken to hospital as per the orders of the Delhi High Court amidst his deteriorating health. It was a measure to protect the health and well-being of the protestor. It was an act to save his life as hunger strike was impacting his health adversely. Meanwhile, lately, Delhi High Court also ordered to move Sonam Wangchuk from state-run Safdarjung hospital to Medanta in Gurugram, a hospital chosen by Sonam Wangchuk & his associates for treatment.

The western media clearly ignores these underpinnings related to health and outrightly constructs fake narratives, by claiming that Sonam Wangchuk was forcibly taken to the hospital.

Affiliates Sonam Wangchuk to Bollywood blockbuster

The reports in Reuters also relate Sonam Wangchuk to the Bollywood movie 3 idiots. The report reiterates that the lead character in the movie was inspired by the works of Sonam Wangchuk. However, Amir Khan, the lead character of the movie has clarified that he did not know Sonam Wangchuk while making the movie. The actor has also rejected the claims that his character in the movie was inspired by Sonam Wangchuk.

Highlights violence in the protest site & fake numbers

The western media also reports about police and security personnel escalating violent measures against the protestors. For example, BBC reports that “dozens of police and parliamentary personnel  swooped on the stage where the activist was lying down. Protestors who tried to stop them were pushed away. They covered him with curtains of bedsheets before removing him from the stage. Minutes later, an ambulance was seen speeding away”.

BBC thus uses such radical and extreme language just to amplify how police in India behaved and forcefully took Sonam Wangchuk to the hospital. However, it does not highlight that he was taken to hospital amid court orders and raising health concerns.

Similarly, the New York Times reported that police used tear gas and batons to disperse the protestors. However, the same western media outlet does not highlight how police officers and security personnel were injured as protestors turned violent and indulged in stone pelting and assaults. The New York Times also presented false numbers and claimed that more than 60 people were arrested and more than 100 were hospitalised as police crackdown caused severe injury.

BBC calls Ladakh as disputed Indian administered territory

While explaining the origins of Sonam Wangchuk, BBC highlights Ladakh as the “disputed Indian administered territory”. Claiming Ladakh as a disputed territory is a clear violation of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ladakh borders China and is critical to India’s national security. Any adverse statement about the region is a direct confrontation with India’s territorial integrity. Ladakh, being a Union Territory(UT) is an integral part of India and not a disputed territory. Such fabricated reports, apparently aim to deepen the geopolitical flashpoint between India and China.

Selective ignorance, reporting to indoctrinate & radicalise the youth

In this way, major US & European news outlets such as Associated Press(AP), Reuters, The Guardian, Deutsche Welle(DW), The Wall Street Journal, New York Times made a series of radical, provocative and indoctrinated statements and claimed the protest by the Cockroach Janata Party as a deeper structural problem in India, linked to education, unemployment and governance issues. These reports are thus, further capable of radicalising and mobilising the youth in an adverse way.

The international press coverage of Sonam Wangchuk and CJP is aimed to sell the protest as a massive anti-government mobilisation amid institutional failures, while ignoring other sides of the story such as alleged foreign link of the protestors, funding by Ford & Soros Foundation etc, who are infamous across the world as deep state tools.

The western media also selectively ignores to report why the FCRA amendment is critical to ensure national security & sovereignty of India, to cut channels of funds aimed at dreadful activities that threaten the socio-cultural fabric of the country. FCRA does not foreign funding to social, cultural, environmental and religious activities in India. The law seeks to further scrutinise the channels of funds and their intended use to ensure national security and protect the civilisational ethos of the country against proselytization and other illicit activities.

The reports in western media outlets also claim the “Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026”, as a “A seemingly comical waste of parliament’s time, but one that could become a powerful weapon for the police, if implemented”. However, in reality, the law aims to prohibit intentional disrespect to national symbols such as flag, emblems, constitution, anthem etc. which is hitherto ingrained as the fundamental duty.

The ultimate goal of western media is to defame India and the image of the government, deepen the fissures and fractions in the country and derail its global legitimacy as a rising power with stable democratic and governance apparatus. In this direction, the international media relentlessly indulges in manufacturing fake narratives, selective ignorance and fabricated reporting.
