BENGALURU: Serious allegations have emerged over the mobilisation of women for the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) ‘Chappal Protest’ at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, with a woman reportedly claiming that around 60 women from Madikeri were brought to the city on the promise of being provided houses and were asked to participate in the protest in return.
The allegation, raises troubling questions about the methods used to mobilise people for political demonstrations. Promises of housing are no small matter for families struggling to secure a roof over their heads.
Shocking claims have emerged from today’s CJP protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru.
Abhijeet Dipke and the CJP brought about 60 women from Madikeri by telling them they would be given homes. They were told to join the protest if they wanted a house.

The reported participation of women from Madikeri has also brought the question of consent to the forefront. People have every right to attend peaceful demonstrations and express their views. But if participation was made conditional on the promise of housing assistance, the circumstances deserve scrutiny.
As per the report, the women travelled to Bengaluru believing they could receive housing assistance and were expected to join the protest in return. It raises serious questions about whether the participants were given clear and truthful information about the purpose of the trip and the conditions attached to the offer.
The October 8 demonstration at Freedom Park was organised as part of CJP’s campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The programme began with a People’s Tribunal, where civil society groups and individuals were expected to raise concerns about voter deletions, before proceeding to the ‘Chappal Protest’ in solidarity with women.
CJP alleged widespread deletions of voters during the SIR exercise and demanded that the process be stopped, that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign and face criminal action, and that Election Commissioners be appointed through an independent and neutral process.
