Prime Minister Modi witnessed a historic welcome as he landed in Indonesia. He was escorted by the fighter jets of the Indonesian Airforce, as the plane entered the country's airspace. Meanwhile, PM Modi was recieved at the airport by President Prabowo Subianto & other cabinet ministers. These gesture reflects the depth of strategic relations and the fervour ascertained to New Delhi as a trusted partner across the geopolitical chessboard

Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 6, Monday arrived in Indonesia in the first leg of his three-nation visit. He was accorded a warm welcome at the airport. In a special gesture, PM Modi was received at the airport by the Indonesian President accompanied by four other cabinet ministers of Indonesia. Also, fighter jets from the Indonesian Air Force accompanied and escorted PM Modi’s plane from the time he entered the Indonesian airspace. This gesture reflects the depth and scope of the strategic partnership shared between New Delhi and Jakarta and also the growing significance of India as a trusted strategic partner in the geopolitical chessboard.

PM Modi is on a three-day visit to Indonesia. He watched a cultural display after he arrived in Jakarta. India and Indonesia elevated bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during PM Modi’s first visit to Indonesia in 2018. This is his first bilateral visit to Indonesia after the elevation of the bilateral ties and follows the state visit of President Prabowo, who was the chief guest at our Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2025.

Witnessing the ceremonial welcome in Jakarta, Prime Minister Modi said that he was touched by President Prabowo Subianto’s gesture of welcoming him at the Jakarta airport and said they will hold discussions aimed at adding even more momentum to this partnership across diverse sectors. “Landed in Jakarta. I’m touched by President Prabowo Subianto’s gesture of welcoming me at the airport. In 2018 we elevated our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has benefitted our people”, he said in a post on the X social media platform.

“During this visit, President Prabowo Subianto and I will hold discussions aimed at adding even more momentum to this partnership across diverse sectors. President Prabowo and I will visit the Prambanan Temple complex at Yogyakarta. This will ensure closer cultural linkages between our nations. While in Indonesia, I also look forward to interacting with the Indian community”, PM Modi added.

In his departure statement, PM Modi said that India and Indonesia share strong civilizational and people-to-people ties and his visit will further deepen all aspects of the multifaceted partnership. India and Indonesia have shared two millennia of close cultural and commercial contacts. Since the adoption of India’s ‘Look East Policy’ in 1991, there has been a rapid development of bilateral relations in political, security, defence, commercial and cultural fields.
