New Delhi: A scuffle broke out between members of the two communities in Lalgarh area of Deoghar district in Jharkhand over a dispute related to renovation of an old temple.

According to media reports, the dispute arises over the renovation of an old Maa Kali temple which led to clashes and stone pelting between the members of two communities, resulting in injuries to several people.

At least seven people have sustained injuries in the scuffle which broke out on Thursday, prompting authorities to intervene and take control of the situation. The injured were subsequently sent to nearby health centre.

Additional forces were deployed in the area to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and identifying the people involved in the incident.

The incident attracted sharp responses from the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), triggering a war of words with leaders from the ruling alliance led by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

Training guns on the ruling alliance, BJP MP from Godda, Nishikant Dubey in a post on X demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.

pic.twitter.com/pFEPxwji1K

— Dr Nishikant Dubey (@nishikant_dubey) January 15, 2026

“Hindus cannot even built a temple in their own land in Jharkhand. Today’s incident from Lalgarh of Madhupaur assembly constituency of my Lok Sabha. Role of Minister Hafiz Ansari should be investigated. People from the Muslim community have also targeted women and children. This is the real character of JMM, RJD, Congress,” wrote the BJP MP in a post on X.

The JMM and the Congress leaders on the other hand hit back on the BJP MP, stating that the role of the Godda MP should be investigated. They said that the matter is being investigated thoroughly by the police and the administration.
