Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that the first suspect, arrested for allegedly passing sensitive military data to a Pakistani handler, revealed details during interrogation that led to the arrest of a second person, believed to be a key intermediary in the espionage network.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were receiving payments via online transactions in return for sharing classified information,” said DGP Yadav. “They maintained regular contact with the handler and were responsible for distributing funds to other local operatives under his direction.”
During the operation, two mobile phones were seized, and an FIR has been registered in connection with the case.
Describing the arrests as a major breakthrough, DGP Gaurav Yadav highlighted that the operation represents a crucial step in dismantling cross-border espionage networks and reaffirmed Punjab Police’s commitment to safeguarding national security. “This operation reinforces our determination to protect national interests and disrupt hostile intelligence activities,” he said. He added that the investigation would continue in accordance with established protocols, with particular emphasis on tracing the flow of funds and uncovering additional operatives and connections within the network.
This development follows the recent arrest of two individuals by Punjab Police for allegedly passing sensitive information to Pakistani agents, including photographs and details of Army cantonments and air bases in Amritsar. Investigators recovered multiple images of restricted sites and Pakistani contact numbers from the suspects’ mobile phones.
