A shocking case of love jihad was reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Shambhal district where an Islamist managed to lure a married Hindu woman to elopement. The woman’s family alleged that the Islamist groomed her to get her converted. Following the recovery, the family and the local Hindu activists protested against the police’s inaction. As of now, a case has been registered against the accused.

Here is what happened

Almost 6 days ago, a married Hindu woman went missing, she left behind her 4-year-old child. After this, her husband registered a missing person’s report at Chandausi police station on August 19. After the FIR was registered the police started looking for the woman. The woman was recovered from the Mainathar police station area in the Moradabad district.

Notably, the woman was recovered with a man identified as Gul Mohammad from the Lalpur Hamir village of Moradabad.

Woman was found wearing a Burqa

After the complaint was registered by the husband of the Hindu woman, the police recovered the woman from Moradabad. It has been claimed in the Hindi media reports, that the woman was caught wearing a Burqa with Gul Mohammad. The location of the couple was revealed by an informer. From her appearance and attire, it was clear that she had been manipulated and groomed.

Victim’s family protested against police inaction

After the recovery, the Moradabad police handed the woman over to Sambhal police.  After this, her family members reached the police station. After the woman had recorded her statement at the police station the family demanded her custody. It has been alleged that the Kotwal refused to give the custody and this became a matter of protest for the family.

Husband recorded a video at the police station

After Kotwal’s refusal, the woman’s aggrieved husband made a video. Accusing a man named Gul Mohammad of love jihad, the husband has spoken of brainwashing the woman. Along with this, the husband has also accused the police of creating pressure and not taking action against the accused man.

Hindu activists swung into action

As soon as the video of the case went viral, activists and officials of Karni Sena and Hindu organisations from several districts of the state reached Chandausi police station and kept on creating a ruckus at Kotwali for several hours demanding the handover of the recovered woman. Later, the police handed over the recovered women to their relatives.
