The meeting appreciated the courage of Captain Smit Machhar and demanded that he be awarded the Ashoka Chakra in recognition of his bravery.
The meeting reviewed the recently concluded student union elections across the country and ABVP’s performance in them. At Panjab University, after 15 years, an organisation has won the President’s post for a second consecutive term, with ABVP securing the presidency again. At Haryana University, ABVP won 33 out of 38 seats. In Uttarakhand, student union elections were held in 92 colleges, with ABVP winning in 64 colleges and its candidates being elected to the President’s post in 54 colleges.
At Delhi University, ABVP won the posts of President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. Emphasising the importance of strengthening democratic participation and student representation through student union elections, the meeting discussed the need to restore regular student union elections in every state.
The meeting also discussed further strengthening the work of national integration in the Northeast through SEIL@60 and the SEIL Yatra. While the ABVP All India Office-Bearers Meeting was held in Itanagar for the first time, ABVP’s work for students and national integration in the Northeast has continued for the past 60 years. Through SEIL, ABVP has consistently worked to promote dialogue, interaction and a sense of fraternity between students from the Northeast and students from other parts of the country, bringing them together through the bonds of national integration.
The meeting also discussed the action plan for the 72nd National Conference, Membership Campaign 2026, campus outreach and activism, tribal student work, the 650th birth anniversary year of Sant Shiromani Ravidas Ji, the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, 50 years of the movement against the Emergency, the Prof. Yashwantrao Kelkar Youth Award and various other national and organisational programmes.
Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, National General Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, said, “The All India Office-Bearers Meeting held in Itanagar witnessed extensive discussions on important issues concerning students. Hostel-related challenges, the needs of students and national integration in Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast were among the key subjects discussed. This is the first time that ABVP’s All India meeting has been held in Itanagar, but ABVP’s work for students and national integration in the Northeast has continued for the past 60 years.
Through SEIL, efforts continue to strengthen dialogue, interaction and a sense of fraternity between students from the Northeast and other parts of the country, connecting them through the bonds of national integration. ABVP’s continued success in student union elections across the country reflects the fact that young people value both democratic participation and a nationalist outlook. India’s Gen-Z is rooted in values, has a nationalist outlook and believes in social harmony.
ABVP’s success at Panjab University, Delhi University, Kerala, Uttarakhand and various other campuses reflects the active participation of this young generation. Regular student union elections should be held in every state and campus, giving students the opportunity to choose their representatives. Wherever elections are not being held, ABVP will work towards their restoration.
In view of Captain Smit Machhar’s courage and his efforts to ensure the safety of passengers, the meeting has demanded that he be awarded the Ashoka Chakra. In the coming period, issues concerning students will be taken forward on a wider scale through the Student Hostel Survey, restoration of student union elections, the membership campaign, SEIL@60 and various national campaigns.
