In yet another case of luring a minor girl for an elopement, a 16-year-old girl was abducted by one of her neighbours, identified as Javed Alam, from Uttar Bazar village of Nawada district in Bihar. The minor was abducted in the wee hours on May 17.

A First Information Report (number–246/2023) was registered at the Warsaliganj police station of the Nawada district on May 17. The complainant, the victim’s mother Reeta Devi, told the police that her daughter, 16-year-old, Sonal Kumari (name changed) has been abducted by Javed Alam alias Monu. Javed was a resident of the Uttar Bazar village area. He had abducted her daughter for marriage.

The complainant stated in the FIR that, the accused was residing at his maternal uncle’s place and used to make rounds around the victim’s place. He somehow managed to lure the girl to elopement. It’s also been reported that the minor also took around 75 to 100gm gold along with 5 lakh cash from her house.

Rita Devi told the police that, the accused, Javed Alam, who resides in the same colony has lured and abducted her daughter around 4 in the morning. She further alleged that one of her neighbours in the morning informed her that he saw her daughter walking with Javed from Simri Gully to Simti bypass on foot, following which both of them fled on two motorcycles.

The victim’s mother, in her complaint, also alleged that other than Javed, a few people from his community were also involved in the girl’s abduction.

Following the complaint of Rita Devi, a case has been subsequently registered against the accused under sections 363 (abduction), 366A (procuration of a minor girl) and 34 (acts done by several people with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Warsaliganj police station.

The victim’s brother, Missu Kumar while speaking with Organiser on May 18 said, the accused had brainwashed his sister. Asking where did he learned the term he said, he learned it through social media, and knows about it through the recent film ‘The Kerala Story’.

About his sister he said, she just finished the intermediate and started going to an academy nearby which teaches stitching. Missu Kumar said, they come from the Mahuri Jati, which falls under the Other Backward Castes (OBC). His father runs a wedding planning business and they also own a wedding lawn.

Missu Kumar is the eldest of all the siblings and, he had two younger brothers and a sister, Sonal (name changed). He says the accused Muslim boy had lured his sister so that he can convert her to Islam. He made her steal money from the house as well.  She has taken cash around 5 lakhs and jewellery around 2-3 Lakhs, he said.

She is just and kid and needs to be recovered, he added.

This correspondent called up the Warsaliganj police station on May 18, Sub Inspector, Rupa said, as of now no arrests have been made in the case and that they have been investigating the matter at their end. The family members of the accused are also absconding, she said.

Notably, Missu Kumar, said the village they live in has not much Muslim population, there are some families only. During the investigation, the police teams raided one of his uncle’s houses but found nothing. The locals say the Uncle is helping the accused throughout.

This correspondent wrote to the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) requesting intervention. The commission taking cognizance of the matter issued a notice (number-5967) to the Superintendent of Police Nawada, Bihar on May 18 and demanded an action report in the case within 3 days.

We believe the minor will be recovered safe and sound. Notably, Organiser will update the report as soon as the minor is tracked down by the police.

On May 11, Organiser reported a similar case from the Nawada district of Bihar where a minor was abducted by Musharraf Alam.
