On March 13, 2023, The News. Pk, a media agency in Pakistan reported that US Congressman Brad Sherman, belonging to the Democratic Party and a senior member of the House of Foreign Affairs Committee expressed his concerns regarding human rights violations in Pakistan.
As per Musarrat Cheema, the Information Secretary of Pakistan (Punjab) Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI), Brad gave a video statement on March 12, 2023, wherein he expressed “there is concern over the increasing number of violent incidents in Pakistan.”
He reminded the Pakistani Government about its obligation to take an action against those who violate human rights. He said, “we will not hesitate from raising our voice against human rights violations.”
Sherman, who has been fulfilling the responsibilities in the foreign affairs committee for 26 years further explained that Pakistan should allow its citizens to express themselves and hold peaceful protests, the News. Pk reported.
The Congressman asserted that it is very important for the United States of America (USA) to stand in Pakistan and around the world.
He deemed Pakistan an important friend and significant partner of the US and clarified that Washington has no interest in meddling in its internal affairs.
Commenting on the politics used by PTI leader Imran Khan, the American politician said “I have no interest in supporting Imran Khan or any political party and have disagreements with him on many issues.”
“We respect the Constitution of Pakistan completely,” he said.
Taking to Twitter Congressman Sherman wrote about discussing the recent developments in Pakistan with the Democratic candidate for Congress Dr Asif Mahmood, the News.PK reported.
The Democrat also mentioned speaking with the PTI chief in his tweet.
In the end, he wrote, “Also pleased that former PM Khan took time to discuss issues with us by phone.”
