NEWS ROUND-UP-3

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on Right to Education (RTE) directing the public schools to compulsorily grant 25 per cent seats to students of economically weaker sections. The Court also said that the reservation would be applicable in minority schools. The public schools had challenged the reservation granted under RTE in the court. Describing the court verdict as historic, ABVP national general secretary Shri Umesh Dutt said the ABVP has been fighting against commercialisation of education from KG to PG. “The way the higher fees and donations are being charged from the parents by the public schools, talented economically students can never seek admission in such schools. Under the Right to Education Act all the public schools are supposed to grant 25 per cent admission to students of the weaker sections, but they not only refused but also challenged it in the Supreme Court. Through this order the Court has also made the public schools realise their social responsibility,” Shri Umesh Dutt said appealing to the government to implement the court order effectively.                             (FOC)
