NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has rejected permission for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, citing insufficient advance notice, alleged non-compliance with directions during an earlier protest and prevailing law-and-order concerns.
Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said the police had received an application from Saurav Das, co-convener of the CJP, seeking permission to protest over the accountability of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
Explaining the decision, Prasad said the application was submitted at short notice, whereas the prescribed guidelines require protest-related intimation to be given at least 10 days in advance.
The police also cited the party’s conduct during an earlier protest, alleging that it had failed to follow lawful directions and comply with undertakings given at the time. Prasad said these factors, along with the prevailing law-and-order situation and the need to ensure public safety and regulate traffic, led to the rejection of the request.

The police have also highlighted that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is in force in the New Delhi area, imposing preventive restrictions aimed at maintaining public order and safety.
