NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has pushed back against claims circulating on social media regarding its students allegedly “joining without permission”, calling the allegations misleading and warning against attempts to manufacture narratives for online engagement.
In a clarification, the student organisation stressed that its programmes, protests, activities and participation are determined and communicated through its official organisational channels. It said random social media pages cannot announce ABVP’s participation in events or attribute statements to the organisation without authorisation.
Urging students and the public to exercise caution before sharing unverified claims, ABVP called on people to rely exclusively on its official communications for accurate information about its programmes and activities.
The claims being circulated on social media regarding ABVP students “joining without permission” are misleading and have not been issued by ABVP.

“Don’t manufacture an ABVP angle for engagement. Verify before you amplify,” the organisation said, underlining its objection to social media posts that allegedly misrepresent its position or actions.
The clarification comes amid wider debates over student membership drives and campus outreach activities, including incidents in Mumbai where questions have been raised over the methods used during membership campaigns. ABVP has maintained that participation in its membership process is voluntary and should be based on consent.
The organisation’s statement seeks to draw a distinction between its officially authorised activities and claims circulated by unaffiliated social media accounts. It also highlights the potential for unverified online posts to create confusion about the organisation’s decisions and student participation.
