Mata Amritanandamayi Devi Amma’s life and seva embody universal love and continue to bless all sections of society, said Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on September 27 in Kollam, Keralam, describing her humanitarian service as exemplary and a matter of pride.
Addressing the Viswaseva Divas celebrations held in connection with Amma’s 73rd birthday at Amrutapuri, Kollam, the Vice President said Amma’s seva projects seek to eradicate both external and internal poverty.
He said that external poverty can be eradicated with money, food and other sorts of assistance. But love, trust and human values should be developed to eradicate internal poverty. Amma does both. That is why Amma is considered a great spiritual luminary.
C.P. Radhakrishnan said that Amrutapuri, the headquarters of Amma’s mission, has become the global nerve centre of seva activities through its charitable activities. The medical and financial aid that Amrita Nandamayi Math provides for deserving people and those affected by disasters is without parallel.
Seva projects worth Rs 50 crore were announced in connection with Amma’s 73rd birthday celebrations. A Rs 2 crore project was announced for the victims of the cloudbursts and lightning floods in Nepal. It was handed over to Surendra Dhapa, the Nepalese Ambassador to Bharat. Financial aid was distributed among the family members of the victims of the Thrissur Pooram fireworks accident and the fishermen who died in Neendakara and Vizhinjam.

Certificates were issued for the free organ transplantation and other free medical aid provided under the auspices of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences.
The Vice President also released the Amritakuteeram 30th Anniversary Souvenir, commemorating the completion of 50,000 homes across India and Sri Lanka, along with three new Ashram publications: The Hanuman Chalisa, The Ocean of Grace and Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
Highlighting healthcare as one of the most inspiring dimensions of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math’s humanitarian work, C.P. Radhakrishnan said that charitable medical care worth over ₹890 crore has been provided in Bharat since 1998, benefiting more than 64 lakh patients through free treatment and surgeries.
The Vice President said seva is also about creating opportunities for the future. He noted that more than 55,000 scholarships have been provided worldwide by the Math and highlighted tablet-aided education, after-school tutoring, adult literacy and vocational training initiatives aimed at opening new pathways for disadvantaged communities.
He said around 2.5 lakh women from poor and vulnerable communities have been supported through start-up capital, vocational training and microfinance, with more than 15,000 Self-Help Groups.

He also highlighted the Math’s contribution of ₹100 crore to the Government of India’s Namami Gange programme, along with tree plantation, cleanliness drives and initiatives for sustainable rural living.
Postmaster General Amitabh Singh presented before Amma the 73rd Birthday Stamp.
A mass wedding of 25 couples was also organised. Gold ornaments were gifted to them.

Satheeshan, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi, Speaker of the Keralam Legislative Assembly Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Nepalese Ambassador Surendra Dhapa, Justice Gopinath of the Kerala High Court, MPs N.K. Premachandran and Shashi Tharoor, MLAs, Swamijis, devotees and volunteers attended the programme.
