The collapse of a paying guest (PG) building in Satya Niketan near Delhi University’s South Campus has triggered fresh concerns over the safety of student accommodation in the national capital. NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Delhi expresses its deepest sympathies and grief to the students and families affected by the extremely tragic collapse of a PG building in Satya Niketan, near Delhi University’s South Campus. ABVP volunteers are currently on the ground assisting with rescue operations.

This incident has left the entire student community deeply distressed and concerned. Reports of a large number of students trapped in the debris are agonizing. ABVP appeals to the Delhi administration, Delhi Police, Fire Department, and Disaster Management teams to drastically accelerate relief and rescue efforts. Adequate rescue personnel, ambulances, emergency medical assistance, and specialized equipment must be deployed at the site immediately. Furthermore, modern rescue gear should be provided to the police and disaster response teams to ensure maximum effectiveness.

To support affected students and their families, ABVP has launched emergency helpline numbers:
*Raja Tanwar: +91 9873466677*
*Sheshu: +91 9492386152*

This horrific event raises severe questions regarding safety standards in private PGs operating around Delhi University. Students come from across the country to study at DU, with a vast majority residing in private PGs and rented accommodations. Compromising safety norms by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and PG operators is unacceptable.

ABVP demands that the Delhi Government and relevant authorities immediately conduct a comprehensive structural and safety audit of all PGs and rented accommodations across student-dense hubs, starting with Satya Niketan. We demand an impartial, high-level inquiry into the root causes of this disaster. If violations regarding building approval, structural integrity, fire safety, or other prescribed standards are found, strict accountability must be fixed, and stringent legal action must be taken against the responsible PG owners, institutions, and officials. A permanent mechanism for regular safety inspections in student residential areas must be established to prevent such tragedies in the future.

*Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, National General Secretary, ABVP, stated:*
“The tragic event in Satya Niketan raises severe questions about the functioning of the administration. A high-level probe must be initiated to ensure strict action against errant PG operators as well as the officials who permitted such unorganized PGs to run. An immediate safety audit of PGs across all student-centric areas in Delhi must be conducted. The administration must fix accountability and take decisive action against all culprits.”
