New Delhi: Applications for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination 2027 can be filled from September 2, 2026. According to the UPSC Annual Calendar 2027, the application form can be filled till September 22, 2026. The UPSC Geo-Scientist Preliminary Examination 2027 is scheduled to be conducted on January 10, 2027. The detailed UPSC notification provides information on vacancies, eligibility criteria, application fee, examination pattern, syllabus and selection process. It is available on the official UPSC website, upsc.gov.in . The examination is held for recruitment to posts such as Geologist, Geophysicist and Chemist in the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and scientific positions in the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).

UPSC Geoscientist Application Fee 2027

Candidates applying for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 will have to pay an application fee of Rs 200. The fee is applicable to candidates belonging to the General, OBC and EWS categories. Female candidates and candidates belonging to the SC, ST and PwBD categories are exempted from paying the application fee.

UPSC Geo-Scientist Exam Pattern 2027

The UPSC Geo-Scientist 2027 exam pattern is divided into three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personality Test. The Preliminary Examination is conducted in objective mode, while the Main Examination consists of descriptive papers related to the candidate’s chosen discipline.

The Preliminary Examination carries 400 marks and consists of two papers. Candidates are required to appear for the papers relevant to the post for which they have applied. Those who qualify the Preliminary stage are called for the Main Examination.

The Main Examination carries 600 marks. Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination are then called for the Personality Test, which carries 200 marks. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the Main Examination and Personality Test, subject to the prescribed conditions.

UPSC Geo-Scientist Syllabus 2027

The UPSC Geo-Scientist syllabus 2027 varies according to the post and subject selected by the candidate. The Preliminary Examination includes a General Studies and subject-specific paper, with the technical paper covering concepts related to the candidate’s discipline. For Geologists, the syllabus broadly covers areas such as geology, physical geology, structural geology, mineralogy, petrology, palaeontology, stratigraphy, economic geology and applied geology. Candidates appearing for Geophysics and Chemistry posts have to study topics prescribed specifically for those disciplines.

The Main Examination goes deeper into the specialised subject. Candidates should therefore prepare the syllabus according to their particular post instead of following a common syllabus for all Geo-Scientist positions.
