Schwarzenegger’s appearance came as a surprise, with no prior announcement that the Hollywood star would participate in the festival. It also remains unclear whether he formally joined the procession or happened to be in the Venice Beach area and stopped to interact with devotees and fans. Nevertheless, his presence quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of this year’s Rath Yatra in Los Angeles.

The grand procession followed its traditional route from Santa Monica to Venice Beach, with thousands of participants pulling the ropes of three towering, vibrantly decorated wooden chariots. Devotees chanted, danced and played traditional instruments as the procession moved along the Southern California coastline.
The atmosphere was filled with kirtan chants, harmoniums and rhythmic kartals, creating a striking blend of Indian spiritual traditions and the distinctive setting of California’s coastline.
The festival also featured the expansive Festival of India, offering visitors a glimpse into India’s rich cultural heritage through classical dance performances, devotional theatre and other programmes. Thousands of attendees were also served prasadam, as part of the celebrations.
The Los Angeles Rath Yatra has been a cultural fixture since 1977. This year marks the golden jubilee celebration & paid tribute to the ISKCON pioneers who organised the first coastal procession five decades ago, highlighting the festival’s evolution into an important cultural and spiritual gathering in the United States.
