The Delhi Police, on July 18, Saturday morning, safely shifted Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital in accordance with the High Court orders, due to his deteriorating health conditions. Sonam Wangchuk had been on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for the last 20 days. The Delhi High Court had recently issued a clear directive to the police department, instructing them to monitor Wangchuk’s health daily and provide immediate medical assistance whenever necessary. Adhering to this judicial order, the Delhi Police took this step on Saturday morning.
The DCP of New Delhi also issued an official statement regarding the matter. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), the DCP stated that the police followed the advice of medical experts and the orders of the court. Due to his rapidly declining health, it was absolutely essential to shift Wangchuk to the hospital. The DCP noted that while the police were performing their duty, some protestors attempted to create unnecessary hurdles. Despite this, the police exercised immense restraint and safely transported Wangchuk to the hospital. Concurrently, the police appealed to everyone present at Jantar Mantar to vacate the area peacefully.
The misinformation campaign by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)
As soon as the Delhi Police shifted Wangchuk to the hospital, leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) immediately began peddling their agenda. They continuously spread misleading news across social media platforms to incite the public. CJP’s controversial spokesperson, Ashutosh Ranka, claimed without any evidence that the police had arrested Wangchuk. In a provocative video, Ranka alleged that the police had forcibly detained Wangchuk and blocked all surrounding routes.
Furthermore, the official X handle of the CJP went to extremes by directly accusing the police of kidnapping Wangchuk. Another CJP spokesperson, Sourav Das, also issued a false statement aimed at spreading panic, alleging that the police had taken Wangchuk to an undisclosed location.
Abhijeet Dipke’s fake claims exposed
Abhijeet Dipke, a former member of the Aam Aadmi Party and the founder of CJP, heavily exploited the situation for personal gain by playing the victim card. Dipke initially claimed that the police were brutally beating people. Shortly after, he tweeted on X that the police had beaten and detained him. This raises a major question: if he was truly under police custody, how was he able to freely post updates on social media?
Even after this alleged detention, Dipke spoke at length with the media. He told reporters that “police goons” arrived at 7:00 AM and dragged Wangchuk away, explicitly labeling the police personnel as “RSS goons”. Expressing his anger, he claimed he was assaulted by the police while returning to Jantar Mantar from a friend’s house. Dipke questioned whether he was a criminal just because he had returned to his country from abroad.
However, this specific statement exposed his biggest lie. It became entirely clear that he did not stay overnight at Jantar Mantar with Wangchuk. Over the past few days, pictures of Dipke had gone viral on the internet, showing him comfortably eating food right next to the fasting Wangchuk. His own public statement, combined with Sourav Das’s tweets, confirms that Dipke was actually resting at a friend’s house away from the protest site during the night.
The shifting narrative of the protest
The protest at Jantar Mantar initially began as an agitation against the NEET paper leak case. However, over time, the protest shifted its core focus. The protestors began making bizarre demands, including slogans like “Meri Ling Meri Marzi”(My Gender/Penis, My Choice).
Initially, Dipke was only demanding the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. When that demand was not met, the group expanded their scope and began openly demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After spending the last 20 days enjoying hearty meals, Abhijeet Dipke has suddenly declared his own indefinite hunger strike, portraying himself as helpless.
Amidst all this political drama, the Cockroach Janta Party(CJP) has officially announced a pre-planned, confrontational strategy. The party intends to march towards the Parliament House on July 20, raising severe concerns over potential chaos and law-and-order disruptions in the national capital. The party claims that over 150,000 students have joined them via missed calls and online campaigns.
The incident of Wangchuk’s medical shifting has given CJP supporters a new pretext to incite street agitation. They are now moving away from the facade of a peaceful march and are openly discussing physical confrontations and violence.
