Back-to-Back Love Jihad Cases in Lucknow: PGI Woman Goes Missing, Another Alleges Conversion Pressure After Marriage Promise

Lucknow has witnessed two separate cases involving allegations of religious conversion, identity concealment and exploitation of young women, triggering investigations by the Uttar Pradesh Police. The cases, one from the SGPGI area and another from the Para police station limits, have drawn significant attention due to the serious accusations levelled by the complainants and their families.

The first case emerged from the SGPGI police station area, where a resident of the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute (SGPGI) residential campus lodged a complaint regarding the disappearance of his 21-year-old daughter.

According to the complaint, the young woman, identified as Annu, left her residence on May 21, 2026, reportedly for work-related purposes and was headed towards the B-2 Market area in Telibagh. However, she never returned home.

Concerned family members launched a search and later approached the police after failing to establish contact with her. The family claims that CCTV footage has captured parts of her movement on the day she disappeared and that the footage has been preserved as part of the investigation.

Police officials have begun examining the available evidence and are attempting to reconstruct the woman’s movements before she went missing.

In their complaint, the family has accused a man identified as Irshad Ali of taking their daughter away.

According to the allegations, Irshad was known to the family and had regular access to their home. The complainants claim that he had cultivated a close relationship with the family over a period of time and frequently visited their residence.

The family further alleged that Irshad had even participated in family occasions and that on Raksha Bandhan, the young woman had tied a rakhi on his wrist. They claim that after gaining the family’s trust, he allegedly began harassing the woman through phone calls and other means.

The complainants have also alleged that the accused created obscene photographs of the woman and used them to exert pressure. According to the family, when they objected to his interactions with their daughter, he threatened to send her to Syria.

The allegation regarding Syria has emerged as one of the most startling claims in the case and is currently under investigation. Police officials have not yet confirmed the veracity of the accusation and have stated that all claims are being examined on the basis of evidence.

The family has additionally accused a doctor associated with the PGI campus of helping the accused.

However, these allegations remain unverified at this stage. Investigators have not made any official statement confirming the involvement of any medical professional.

Police sources indicate that statements are being recorded and all individuals named in the complaint may be questioned as part of the investigation.

Officials have maintained that conclusions will only be drawn after examining documentary evidence, electronic records, witness testimonies and forensic material, wherever required.

Second Case: Woman Accuses Zubair Ansari of Concealing Identity and Pressuring Conversion

In another case reported from Lucknow’s Para police station area, a young woman has filed an FIR against Zubair Ansari and several members of his family.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly befriended her after concealing his identity and later promised marriage. The woman alleges that she entered into a relationship based on those assurances.

The FIR states that the accused subsequently established physical relations with her under the pretext of marriage. The complainant has further alleged that videos were secretly recorded and later used to blackmail her.

She has also accused the accused and his family members of financial exploitation during the course of the relationship.

One of the central allegations in the FIR concerns claims of religious coercion.

According to the complaint, the woman was pressured to convert her religion, recite the Kalma and offer namaz. She has alleged that repeated efforts were made to persuade her to adopt Islamic practices.

The complainant further claims that when she resisted the pressure to convert, she was subjected to physical assault and threats.

Police have registered a case on the basis of the complaint and initiated an investigation into the allegations.

Officials have stated that statements of all concerned parties will be recorded and evidence will be examined before any legal conclusions are reached.

The emergence of two separate cases involving allegations of identity concealment, coercive religious conversion and exploitation within a short span has reignited discussions around  “Love Jihad” allegations in Uttar Pradesh.

As investigators continue to gather witness statements, digital evidence and other material connected to both cases, the incidents have become the latest in a series of alleged conversion-related cases reported from the state, raising fresh concerns about the methods allegedly used to target vulnerable women.
