GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its manifesto for the 2026 Assam assembly elections, rolling out Sankalpa Patra with 31 key promises aimed at shaping the state’s future. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in the presence of state BJP leaders, unveiled the party’s manifesto. The Sankalapa Patra says, “We will protect the land, heritage and dignity of the indigenous people of Assam by: Implementing the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, to expedite the process of detection and pushback of illegal immigrants, freeing every inch of land from encroachment by illegal immigrants.

Providing land rights to all genuine citizens of Assam under Mission Basundhara, freeing the remaining encroached lands of Satras, Namghars, Devalayas and other places of worship and cultural heritage and providing financial assistance under the Asom Darshan Scheme.

Redeveloping and restoring Talatal Ghar and freeing it from encroachment in line with the Rang Ghar Beautification project.” BJP has clearly indicated in its manifesto that apart from huge development, the solution to the illegal immigrants issue is still the top priority for the saffron party.

Apart from this, the BJP in its manifesto says that its government will strengthen the legislative protections to preserve the civilisation, heritage and rights of the people of Assam by:

Working towards the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), excluding the 6th Schedule areas and tribals, while ensuring the traditional rights of ethnic communities. Formulating an effective Act to end the menace of Love Jihad, and taking firm measures to tackle the menace of Land Jihad. BJP has promised to bring UCC to Assam to curb the menace of Love-Land Jihad, and the 6th scheduled tribal areas will be excluded from the purview of the proposed UCC. Apart from this, the ruling party has promised to launch the Badh Mukt Assam Mission with an investment of ₹18,000 crore to make Assam flood-free by: Launching a comprehensive River Rejuvenation Mission to rebuild embankments using modern technologies and sluice gates, focus on riverbank stabilisation, reclamation of eroded land and implementation of robust flood resilient measures. Developing National Waterway-2 through systematic dredging and sustainable navigation facilities. Creating the Badh Nirikkhak Bahini to train and deploy youth volunteers for embankment monitoring. Apart from this, the BJP promised to launch the One District, One University initiative and to ensure comprehensive coverage of medical and engineering colleges in each district to enhance the quality of higher education in Assam.

Some of the Key points included in the Sankalapa Patra of the BJP for the Assam assembly election 2026 are: 2 lakh government jobs for youth in a transparent manner, as was done in this term of the government. Moreover, the BJP promised to support 10 lakh youth with financial aid up to Rs 5 lakh for self-employment. Additionally, the BJP promised a ₹5 lakh crore infrastructure push, including expressways, the Brahmaputra tunnel, new airports, and the Water Metro. In the education sector, the BJP promised free schooling for the poor, the construction of 1,000 model schools, and the recruitment of 70,000 teachers.
