The Blood Centre is not merely a medical facility, but a temple of humanitarian service. Praising Seva Bharati for taking this initiative, Telangana State Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla described it as an organisation driven by a spirit of service, dedicated to serving people every day.

He inaugurated the ‘Blood Centre’ on March 29 at the YMIS building in Kothi, Bhagyanagar. On this occasion, the Governor said that he expressed happiness at seeing such a blood bank centre equipped with such advanced equipment for the first time.

He expressed the view that establishing this in the name of Doctor Hedgewar, who dedicated his life to the service of the nation, is like fulfilling Doctorji’s life. He conveyed his congratulations to Seva Bharati, which took the initiative in establishing this centre.

The Governor Shukla recalled that when he was the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, he used to support Seva Bharati programmes through the Governor’s fund. He said that with the principle “if the individual is good, the nation will be good”, steps were taken to bring change among youth who are going astray.

He stated that he started a movement to free youth from the habit of intoxicating substances, and that movement gradually reached the village level. As it gained momentum, the state government and other political parties made significant efforts to take it forward, the Governor explained. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focusing significantly on service activities.

He said that while discharging their responsibilities as MPs, he is guiding them by asking whether they are also participating in service activities, and that even while being busy with governance matters, thinking in this manner and guiding MPs is a great thing.

Dr Satish Reddy, the National Security Advisory Board member, former DRDO Chairman and the President of Dr Hedgewar Blood Bank said that this blood bank, established with the support of many donors, should grow well.

He further said, this charitable initiative is a vital addition to our national health infrastructure, addressing the critical gap in timely blood access for the underprivileged. As we witnessed during the pandemic, building community-driven healthcare systems is essential for national resilience. It is heartening to see our youth and organizations like Seva Bharathi coming together to transform compassion into capacity. Happy to be part of the initiative.

Suhas Rao Hiremath, All India Karyakarini Sadasya, RSS, while speaking, said that blood is essential for a person’s life, and that a blood donor embodies a sense of duty, while the recipient carries a sense of gratitude.

However, he said that it is special that a ‘blood centre’ possesses both these qualities. He said that through blood donation, culture is also built, and cited an incident that took place a few months ago in Pune. A youth injured in a road accident needed rare group blood. As per the hospital management’s suggestion, a person came in a vehicle, donated blood, and started his return journey. A short distance from his home, the donor said he would stop the vehicle and walk. Observing a crowd gathered near the house, the patient’s father enquired and came to know that the blood donor’s son had died. With tears in his eyes, he asked, “How did you come in this situation?” He recalled that the donor replied, “My son has died, he will not return. But when I came to know that my blood would be useful to save the life of a youth in danger, what greater blessedness could there be, so I came immediately when you called.”

He explained another incident showing how the act of blood donation leads to the growth of humanity. In Mumbai, three youths doing small businesses used to behave irresponsibly. When a person in that metropolis needed urgent blood for his wife and approached those youths, they came forward to donate blood. That was the first time they donated blood. The husband of the woman, whose life they saved, offered obeisance at their feet with tears. Because of that, a feeling that they had done a good deed arose in them. From then on, not only did they lead an ideal life, but one among them is now someone whom any hospital management in Mumbai contacts when blood is needed, he explained. He expressed hope that the saying “while living, donate blood… while leaving, donate eyes” becomes true, and that Seva Bharati and the Sangh will jointly plan so that this blood centre continues its services continuously.

Ele Shyam Kumar, Akhil Bharatiya Dharma Jagaran Pramukh, explained the objectives of the Young Men’s Improvement Society (YMIS). He said that in this building, a library, medical services, yoga classes, blood centre, and tuitions are conducted, and along with these, Bala Samskara Kendras and Kishori Vikas Kendras are being run in poor localities. He said that medical services are provided free of cost, including doctor’s consultation and medicines. He stated that when he was district pracharak in Bhagyanagar, he observed that people coming from other areas faced difficulty in getting blood for patients. He expressed happiness that the earlier resolve to establish a large blood centre in Bhagyanagar has now been fulfilled.

Rashtriya Seva Bharati president Sunil Sapre, while speaking, said that the spirit of service exists within Hindu thought. He said that Vyasa Bhagavan, who composed the eighteen Puranas, stated their essence as “Paropakaaraya Punyaya, Paapaya Parapeedanam”. He said that it is not our philosophy that only the strong should survive, but that even the strong should care for the weak, which is our Bharatiyata.

He said that as per “Kriyasiddhi Sattve Bhavati Mahataam Na Upakarane”, with the resolve of achieving action, Rashtriya Seva Bharati is conducting many service activities across the country. For example, under the name ‘Vaibhavashree’, it is working extensively in Tamil Nadu for the upliftment of women.

In the Northeastern states, under the name Dhanvantari Yatra, it has been providing medical facilities to tribals for the past 25 years. In Maharashtra, Janakalyan Samiti is conducting many service activities, he explained.

In this programme, Human Rights Commission Chairperson Vijayabharati, Seva Bharati president Durgareddy, Telangana region Sanghachalak Sunder Reddy, Kshetra Seva Pramukh Ekkachandra Shekhar, Prant Seva Bharati convenor Vasu, General Secretary Rammurthy Prabala, Prant Seva Pramukh Shivashankar and others participated.
