NEW DELHI:  The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has stepped up pressure on Parliament to redefine the term ‘minority’. As part of a special outreach campaign during the Budget Session, its office-bearers met 375 Members of Parliament to present their demands.

The organisation also called for the provisions of Articles 29 and 30 of the Constitution to be applied uniformly to all citizens, ensuring equal constitutional rights for religious education across communities without discrimination.

The VHP has been raising this demand for a long time. A related resolution was also passed last year during a meeting of its Kendriya Margdarshak Mandal held in Delhi.

The 19-day MP outreach campaign was conducted from March 9 to March 27. During this period, discussions were also held on issues such as the need for a national population policy in light of demographic imbalances in several states, as well as the development of pilgrimage infrastructure.

VHP Central General Secretary Bajrang Lal Bagda stated that 170 office-bearers from across the country, representing different regions, languages, and sects, participated in the campaign and met MPs to present these demands.

He added that this outreach is usually conducted during the Winter Session of Parliament, but due to its shorter duration this time, the campaign was held during the Budget Session. Representatives from various states arrived in Delhi in three to four phases to connect with MPs from their respective regions.
