London: On the evening of March 3, a group of young Muslim men, reportedly from a nearby mosque, disrupted celebrations at the Holi festival held in the former Harrow Civic Centre parking lot in London, which was attended by hundreds of Hindus.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. Authorities have arrested a 14-year-old in connection with the attack.
Families, local residents, and dignitaries attended the Holika Dahan celebration organised by the International Siddhashram Shakti Centre, which had obtained prior permission from the local council. The event saw participation from multiple civic leaders, including two serving mayors, council members, portfolio holders, and a commander from the London Fire Brigade, reflecting cross-party support for the community program.
Disruption and Police Intervention at Harrow Holi Festival
However, the gathering was disrupted when a group of individuals created a disturbance. Footage captured instances of shoving and scuffling as tensions escalated between attendees and the intruders. According to a Metropolitan Police spokesperson quoted by Harrow Online, “A 14-year-old boy remains in police custody following an incident in Harrow. Police were called to reports of a disturbance at a civic centre on Station Road at around 20:50 hrs on Tuesday. Officers arrived within minutes and arrested the boy on suspicion of affray shortly after 21:00 hrs. No injuries were reported.”
Witnesses reported that the intruders approached the event and began interrupting it, throwing trash cans and shouting abuses, before a physical altercation broke out. Some attendees fled the scene as police intervened.
This incident follows a history of attacks against Hindus in the United Kingdom, highlighting ongoing communal tensions. Notably, in September 2022, Hindu communities in Leicester faced violence from mobs following protests against earlier acts of aggression after the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match. During those events, homes and individuals were targeted, and symbols like “Jai Shree Ram” were mischaracterised, while responsibility for the attacks was downplayed or misattributed.
