The Holi event at Harrow in London was organised by International Siddhashram Shakti Centre. As per the reports, the organisation had gained prior permission from the local council to celebrate holi. Also, many local politicians and civic leaders including two serving mayors of the city, councillors, council portfolio holders and the London Fire Brigade Commander were attending the holi event. At such a cross cultural celebration and joyous occasion, the Muslim youth created chaos, panic and attacked the Hindu population. This is indeed a threat to global peace and harmony.

Muslim youth came from a mosque & assaulted Hindus

As per the reports, the group of Muslim youth came out of a nearby mosque and attacked the people participating in the Holi event. The Muslim youth pushed the people over the speakers. The reports also claim that the group of Muslim men left the event location shortly, however, they returned after a point of time with 20 more men and created ruckus, assaulted the Hindu community and other attendees in the holi celebrations. Eye witnesses assert that the Muslim youth threw bins, glass bottles and sticks and harassed the people who were celebrating holi. Gradually, the chaos turned into a fight.

When the situation slipped out of control, people called the police around 8:50PM. The local police also asserted that key accused have been arrested and further investigations are underway. The video of the Muslim youth attacking the people celebrating Holi surfaced across the social media platforms rapidly and attracted severe criticism from the masses. The Hindu community across the globe have marked the violence on Holi celebrations as “shameful” and “disgusting”. As such communal conflicts keep erupting in the UK and the minority Hindu community are repeatedly targeted without any logical basis, people also demand the UK government to bring equal protection under the UK law, so that the minority Hindu community and their rights are well protected. The Hindu Rights Groups also asserted that Hindus celebrating their festival in the United Kingdom should nevr feel unsafe. Hindu community deserves transparency, honesty and protection.

The UK Member of Parliament(MP) from the Conservative Party for Harrow East, Bob Blackman raised the issue of attack on the Hindus during Holi celebrations in the Parliament. The MP aserted, “Thugs from the Central Mosque attacked the annual Holi celebration in Harrow, attempting to assault over a thousand peaceful worshippers”. He advocated for the rights and protection of the British Hindu community and assured to cool down community tensions.
