GUWAHATI: This time it is not ‘Kerala Story 2’, it’s Chennai Story based on Assam. A shocking case of sensational “Love Jihad” has surfaced in Assam after a young widow from Golaghat district filed an FIR against her fraud husband, accusing him of deception and coercion in their marriage.
The woman, who travelled to Chennai in 2023 seeking work to support her daughter, met a man who introduced himself as Raj from the Sri Bhumi district in Assam. He helped her navigate life in the unfamiliar city, building her trust over months.
Raj proposed marriage, citing his helpful nature and his promise of stability for her and her child. They wed in a Hindu temple in Chennai last year. But what began as a friendship soon turned coercive, the victim recounted.
“He started pressuring me for a relationship. He was a good friend for me from the same state and I was not thinking about any relation,” she told police. “One day, he came to my room with a bottle of phenyl, threatening suicide if I refused. I felt forced into it.”
The initial days of marriage were fine. But the problem started when she started doing Puja in their rented room. “ I was shocked, why a Hindu man is against our own rituals and Puja at home”, she said.
It took six months for the poor victim to know that her fraud husband is not a Hindu but a Muslim and his real name is not Raj but Abdul Haque.
The night was very frightening, she explains. Abdul said you came to know my real identity, and now you will see the real me. Abduk went to the market, bought beef, and cooked it. The victim was forced to eat beef, and on her denial, she was brutally bitten by Abdul. The victim was bitten so terribly that she had to be hospitalised. But there, too, she was forced to say that it was an accident. Not only that, Jihadi Abdul captured many private videos of the victim on his mobile. He started blackmailing her and took all her savings and regularly took all her salaries.
The fraud abandoned her after taking her money and returned to his home in Assam. The victim sent regular money to him as he threatened to make her video viral. After several months of torture and mental harassment, the victim finally lodged an FIR on 24th February in the Sri Bhumi district of Assam against Abdul Haque seeking justice.
The victim described the marriage as a nightmare, shattering her hopes for a secure future. Authorities are investigating the FIR, which highlights concerns over interfaith deception of Hindu women by Love Jihadi across the country.
