Bengaluru: A simple social media post by Japan’s Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, about enjoying pizza in Bengaluru has turned into an unexpected online sensation. The ambassador shared his dining experience at a popular restaurant in the city on X(formerly Twitter) social media platform, triggering wide reactions from netizens and even drawing a response from Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.

During his recent visit to Bengaluru, Ambassador Keiichi stopped by the well-known restaurant chain ‘Pizza 4P’s’ and shared a photograph of himself relishing a pizza. In his post, he described the meal as one of the best he had in India and praised the restaurant for its quality and unique journey.

Founded by Japanese entrepreneurs in Ho Chi Minh City, now loved across Asia — with branches in Japan🇯🇵 and here in India🇮🇳 too.

— ONO Keiichi, Ambassador of Japan (@JapanAmbIndia) January 31, 2026

“Pizza 4P’s was started by Japanese entrepreneurs in Ho Chi Minh City and has now grown into a popular brand across Asia. It has branches in Japan and India as well. This is the best pizza I have tasted in India,” the Ambassador wrote, expressing his delight over the experience.

What appeared to be a casual food post quickly caught the attention of social media users, especially Bengaluru residents who take pride in the city’s vibrant food culture. The post began trending locally, gathering thousands of likes, shares and comments within hours.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya also joined the conversation by replying to the ambassador’s post. “Glad you liked the pizza. I enjoy it too. It is indeed a symbol of Japan–Bengaluru friendship. Hope you have a wonderful stay in our city”, Surya wrote, adding a diplomatic yet warm touch to the exchange.

The friendly interaction between the Japanese envoy and the young parliamentarian was widely appreciated, with many users calling it a reflection of the strong cultural and economic ties between Japan and Bengaluru. Over the past decade, the city has emerged as a major hub for Japanese investments, technology collaborations and cultural exchanges.

Glad you enjoyed the pizza, Ambassador. Undoubtedly , they are the best. I am addicted to their pizzas!

Netizens flooded the comment section with humorous and enthusiastic reactions. Some users jokingly remarked that getting a table at Pizza 4P’s in Bengaluru is often a difficult task due to its popularity. “Even the Japanese Ambassador managed to get in – that shows how special the place is”, one user quipped.

Another comment read, “If the Japanese Ambassador says it is the best pizza in India, then it must really be something!” Several others thanked the envoy for highlighting a Bengaluru-based restaurant and promoting the city’s food scene on an international platform.

A few users also playfully questioned whether the Ambassador was ignoring Delhi in favour of Bengaluru, while many invited him to explore more eateries and landmarks across the city. “Next time you are in Bengaluru, do try our local South Indian food as well”, one follower suggested.

Within a short span, the post crossed more than 70,000 views and continued to attract engagement from food lovers, travel enthusiasts, and diplomatic circles alike. What started as a personal dining experience has now become a small but meaningful moment of cultural connection between India and Japan.

Bengaluru has long enjoyed close relations with Japan in areas such as technology, manufacturing, metro rail projects, and start-up collaborations. The ambassador’s light-hearted post and the MP’s response have further strengthened the image of the city as a global, welcoming, and cosmopolitan destination. As social media continues to blur the lines between diplomacy and everyday life, moments like these highlight how food, travel and simple human experiences can bring people and nations closer together.
