BHUBANESWAR: The proposed queue-based Dhadi  Darshan system at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri has been temporarily put on hold after minor technical flaws were detected during its trial phase, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan informed on January 2.

The new darshan arrangement, aimed at streamlining the movement of devotees within the 12th-century shrine, was undergoing a trial implementation when shortcomings were identified in the structure and operational framework. Following the detection of these issues, authorities decided to defer the rollout until all flaws are fully rectified.

Addressing the media, the Law Minister clarified that the identified issues are not serious and are already being addressed. “When we were about to implement the queue-based Darshan system, a minor glitch was detected in the structure prepared for it. We are trying to resolve the issue with the help of advanced technology,” he said.

He further stated that the agencies responsible for executing the project have been instructed to immediately take corrective measures using appropriate technological solutions. The system will be introduced only after it becomes completely error-free, ensuring a seamless and safe darshan experience for devotees.

Once operational, the Dhadi Darshan system is expected to significantly ease congestion and make entry and exit from the temple smoother and more convenient, particularly during peak pilgrimage seasons. The state government is also considering special provisions for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and local residents of Puri to ensure hassle-free access to the shrine.

“Efforts are underway to improve the entry and exit process while keeping in mind the convenience of elderly and differently-abled devotees. The long-standing demand of local residents for special arrangements is also under review,” Minister Harichandan added, expressing hope that the issues would be resolved soon.

It may be recalled that in September 2025, the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee approved the pilot implementation of the Dhadi Darshan system at the temple’s Natamandap, the inner congregational hall of the shrine. The decision was taken during the first meeting of the newly constituted Managing Committee held at the Neeladri Bhakta Nivas conference hall in Puri.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by the state government and temple administration to enhance the pilgrimage experience while preserving the sanctity and traditional rituals of the iconic shrine.
