UIDAI records 231 Crore Aadhaar authentication transactions in November, highest monthly total this financial year

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) processed a record 231 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions in November 2025, marking an 8.5 percent year-on-year rise. The surge reflects India’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem and the growing reliance on Aadhaar for welfare delivery, financial services and identity verification

In a strong indicator of India’s accelerating digital transformation, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) registered 231 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions in November 2025, the highest monthly volume recorded so far in the current financial year. According to data released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the latest figure marks an impressive 8.5 percent growth compared to November 2024.

The numbers also show a sharp rise from 219.51 crore transactions in October 2025, signalling increasing reliance on Aadhaar for routine service delivery, welfare access, financial transactions and identity verification across the country. The UIDAI said the upward trend reflects the technology’s expanding penetration and the strengthening of India’s digital public infrastructure.

The UIDAI emphasised that the sustained month-on-month increase demonstrates the continued trust placed by individuals, departments and businesses in Aadhaar-based authentication. With more services digitising their processes, ranging from government subsidies to bank account verification, the authentication layer is increasingly becoming central to India’s service delivery architecture.

Officials noted that Aadhaar authentication now supports a wide range of use cases, from telecom SIM verifications and banking KYC to e-governance, digital welfare schemes, online citizen services, and secure access to financial platforms. The growth, they said, underlines how deeply Aadhaar has become embedded in the country’s digital economy.

Aadhaar’s AI-enabled Face Authentication feature continues to gain popularity, especially among pensioners and elderly beneficiaries who prefer contactless verification. In November 2025 alone, 28.29 crore face authentication transactions were recorded more than double the 12.04 crore transactions logged in November 2024.

UIDAI highlighted that nearly 60 percent of the Digital Life Certificates (DLCs) submitted by pensioners in November used face authentication. The feature, available across Android and iOS devices, allows users to authenticate their identity through a simple face scan, eliminating the need for specialised biometric devices or physical visits to government offices.

Officials stated that this has significantly eased the annual verification process for senior citizens, especially in rural and remote regions where infrastructure constraints previously caused delays.

Aadhaar-based e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) transactions also registered robust growth during the month. In November 2025, the UIDAI processed 47.19 crore e-KYC transactions, an increase of over 24 percent compared to November 2024.

The MeitY noted that Aadhaar e-KYC has become a crucial enabler of business efficiency, particularly for:

  • Banks and financial institutions
  • Fintech and digital lending platforms
  • Telecom companies
  • Insurance providers
  • Digital payment ecosystems

The authentication layer helps organisations onboard customers faster, reduce compliance overheads and minimise fraud risk, all while ensuring seamless digital service delivery. UIDAI stated that e-KYC continues to support the broader objective of enhancing the ease of doing business in India.

Officials attribute the increasing authentication volumes to several converging factors:

  • Higher adoption of online citizen services by both state and central governments.
  • Greater integration of Aadhaar with welfare schemes, including Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
  • Fintech expansion and rising demand for instant digital KYC.
  • Improved accessibility of authentication tools such as face recognition and mobile-based biometric capture.
  • Growing trust in Aadhaar’s security and reliability.

As Aadhaar becomes more deeply incorporated into public service delivery and financial workflows, experts say authentication volumes will continue to scale upward, a trend visible in consistent monthly growth over the past year.

The UIDAI has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening authentication security, enhancing user convenience and expanding the availability of digital verification tools. Officials said that as India moves towards a more digitally empowered society, Aadhaar will remain a cornerstone of identity verification for millions.

With more government services migrating to digital platforms and private sector adoption rising steadily, the record 231 crore authentications in November underline the scale at which India’s digital ecosystem now operates and how Aadhaar continues to be a foundational pillar of that ecosystem.
