A 32-year-old woman named Pramila was arrested by the Mirzapur police on Saturday, November 7, in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, after a local Hindu Dalit labourer lodged a complaint accusing her of attempting to convert him to Christianity.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complaint was filed by Dhruv Chandra, son of Durga Prasad, a resident of Rampur village. The case was registered at the Rajgarh police station on November 7, 2025, under Sections 3 and 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.

In his statement, Dhruv Chandra alleged that Pramila, the wife of Deepak and a resident of Chandanpur Khoradih village, had been pressuring him to convert to Christianity. He claimed she offered him financial inducements and other temptations to persuade him to abandon his Hindu faith. Despite his refusal, she allegedly continued her efforts, trying to “mislead” him with various offers.

Dhruv Chandra further stated that Pramila had been engaged in such activities “for many days” and had already converted several people in her village. He also mentioned having a video clip related to the incident as evidence.

Daya Shankar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rajgarh police station, confirmed Pramila’s arrest, noting that she was produced before a local Mirzapur court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Police sources added that Pramila’s husband had strongly objected to her alleged conversion activities, which had caused frequent disputes within their family.
